Star Wars Battlefront - How to Win at Walker Assault

This guide will help you improve your chances in the Walker Assault mode of Star Wars Battlefront. This mode features a total of 40 players (20 per side), and tasks the Rebels with activating and controlling three Uplink stations. The Imperials, on the other hand, must defend their AT-ATs, and stop the Rebels from taking control of the same Uplink stations, preventing them from calling in Y-Wings for support. If the Rebels are successful, the attack will be thwarted. If the Imperials prevail, they will destroy the base.

There has been a lot of chatter online that this mode isn’t very balanced, and that some players have never seen the Rebels pull off the victory. While you can expect there to be some tweaks implemented by the team at DICE, players want to win right now. As with any objective-based game mode in a first-person shooter, that is possible only if your team is on the same page.

Rebel Tips

As the AT-ATs start to lumber across the field of battle, the goal of the Rebels is to activate and hold the three Uplink stations. If they are successfully able to do this, Y-Wings will be brought in to weaken the AT-ATs, allowing your forces on the ground to deal big damage. Without the Y-Wings, individual ground troops will find that the armor of these beasts is too much to overcome.

Of course, this is all complicated by the fact that the Imperials are assaulting the Uplinks at the same time, and this is why Rebel communication is essential. If you’re on a team of individuals, you’re likely going to lose, and there’s not a lot you can do about it. If you are with a squad of players who are talking to each other, planning and execution are going to play a big role in your success. Call out enemy positions, order other players to defend the Uplink, and send your most skilled pilots to the skies when the Power-Ups present themselves. Defend your first Uplink long enough and you’ll be moving on to the next. If you can activate and defend all three, the Imperials are sure to fall.

Lastly, if you are able to get yourself access to a Snow Speeder via the Power-Up, you can attempt to take down one of the AT-ATs with the Tow Cable by flying around it and following the prompts. This is a very difficult move to pull off, but it’s extremely fun to try.

Imperial Tips

The Imperials have a much easier go of it. Generally, their strategy is to prevent the Rebels from activating and holding the Uplink station, but there are ways that you can make this job even easier. For starters, a few lucky players can actually get into an AT-AT and control the powerful weapons. They can’t stay in there the entire game, but the more points they rack up, the longer their run will continue. While you’re in there, focus on supporting your ground troops, taking out foes near them. This will allow them to easily push forward and carve a path to the Uplink station.

The support roles don’t stop there. If you are able to get into one of the TIE Fighters, you can continue your harassment of the Rebel ground forces, as well as any air vehicles they might have on the go. Be on specific lookout for the Snow Speeders, as they can cause all kinds of trouble for your overall objective of destroying the Rebel base.

Of course, most people will spend the bulk of the game on the ground, and squads that can communicate are likely to have the most success. Call out enemy positions, and never stop making progress toward the Uplink stations. Be on the lookout for Power-Ups, such as the Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader Hero Pickups, but don’t spend the entire game hunting them. Let them come to you.

While there is a formula that both teams can use to be successful, it’s the same for both sides. You have to play the objective, focusing on the Uplink stations (and AT-ATs if you’re the Rebels) more than you focus on your personal stats. If you’re able to do this, you increase your chances of victory.
