Take Advantage of Verticality
The quick mobility of the newer Call of Duty installments is an aspect that can take a bit of getting used to for those who haven’t played the more recent games. However, quick maneuvering generally fits in quite well with Call of Duty’s fast paced nature, and some of these adjustments allow players to flow through a map more smoothly. For example, your character will now automatically mount over short objects, eliminating the usual button-press required to hurdle over obstacles or jump into windows.
With Black Ops 3’s futuristic theme, it should come as no surprise that players possess a thrust capability that effectively allows for double jumping in multiplayer. Simply jump a second time while already in the air to reach higher ground or hop over large gaps. In fact, many of the new maps in the Black Ops 3 multiplayer are designed with this feature in mind. Be aware of your surroundings, and try not to fall into any large chasms while running around.
If you want to reach new heights (both literally and figuratively), incorporate wall running into your multiplayer routine. Being able to wall run over a gap to flank an enemy or catch them off guard often separates skilled players from novice ones. Note that you can also shoot while wall running, which may be necessary during unexpected enemy encounters along the wall. Wall running is a great way to ambush opponents or to cover a lot of ground. This added verticality encourages players to think of new and innovative multiplayer tactics.
Lastly, get comfortable with using the slide mechanic. Not only is it fun to slide right into enemy territory when playing aggressively, it can also help you quickly slip away from less favorable circumstances. Sometimes a well coordinated slide can provide just enough time to evade an incoming bullet.
Select a Specialist that Suits Your Play Style
One of the newest additions to Black Ops 3’s multiplayer are elite soldier classes called Specialists. Each Specialist has an offensive and defensive variant that features a unique set of abilities or weapons. From quiet and stealthy, to powerful and tanky, there is likely at least one Specialist that fits your particular play style. Some Specialists perform better in objective based modes, while others offer a more run-and-gun approach. Experiment with all of the different Specialists as you unlock them in order to find the one that works best for you. Become a Streaker
Scorestreaks have been the method of choice for rewarding more tactical players who contribute to their team. Earning scorestreaks can be a bit tricky, but an effective scorestreak reward is usually worth the effort. Begin by selecting less ‘expensive’ scorestreaks that can be attained easily. Not only do scorestreaks support your team, they also serve as a motivation for you to figure out ways to earn points more effectively. Destroying enemy equipment, capturing an objective, or simply maneuvering more carefully to kill a streak of enemies are all effective means for accumulating scorestreak points.
If you wish to earn scorestreak points more rapidly, select the Specialist named Seraph and opt for the Combat Focus ability. This Specialist enables a bonus score multiplier that helps to earn scorestreaks quickly. The Care Package reward is also a relatively easy scorestreak to earn, and can help familiarize players with various scorestreak rewards that they may not have been able to achieve otherwise.
Invest Tokens Wisely
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 features Unlock Tokens that are required to gain access to new weapons, equipment, perks, scorestreaks, and even the Specialist variants. A new Unlock Token is granted each time a player reaches a new level in multiplayer.
Though it may be tempting to go on a spending spree in order to get back into a round more quickly, try not to use your Unlock Tokens too hastily. Early on, you’ll be stuck with a fairly limited loadout, and carelessly spending your Unlock Tokens can leave you stuck with perks or items you don’t really prefer.
Once you find a weapon that you are relatively happy with, invest a couple tokens to unlock attachments for that weapon to make it even better. That way, when you’re ready to unlock new weapons or items, you will at least have one reliable weapon in your arsenal that you are comfortable with if the new ones don’t suit you.
Hopefully these general guidelines will help improve your multiplayer skills in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
