Deus Ex: Human Revolution Side Quest Walkthrough Part 4 – Detroit After China

Welcome back to Detroit. If you want to run through the side quest here, specifically Acquaintances Forgotten, there are some things you must have done earlier in the game. Most of these are triggered quest when you meet certain prerequisites.

Acquaintances Forgotten Prerequisites
1) Spoken with Pritchard before you spoke with Sarif after the Highland/FEMA mission
2) Received the “Yes Boss” achievement/trophy by winning your dialogue with Sarif
3) Read the E-mails David Sarif sent to you about Adam Jensen's past

If you have met those three criteria then you will receive this side quest while you are en route to the convention center to talk with Taggart. If you want to talk with the Detective, you need to head for Earl's Court north of the LIMB Clinic. The Detective is in the same building as Saurat, which is the Northern Downtown apartment building. Head up to the third floor. There you will see a Corporate Guard. Take him out then head in to meet the good Detective. Talk with Bret and he will thank you for dealing with the guard and send you to get his trauma kit. It is in the closet just outside of the bathroom where you found him. Save before you talk to him again as there are two separate achievements/trophies depending on choices you make. If you opt to give him a lethal dose of morphine after you get all the information out of him then you get one achievement/trophy. This immediately disqualifies you from the Pacifist one though. Still, saving before hand ensures that you can get both.

Now it is time to make for the marked locker. There are 6 “Security” Personnel waiting around the locker. Deal with them however you want, just remember to use non-lethal means if you are after the Pacifist achievement/trophy. Take them down and punch in the code Bret gave you “4062”. It is a level 5 hack so be wary if you want to attempt that (even if the secuity layout is not too bad). After that, hack into the computer to get some more information. It has level 3 security. Bret said it would lead to Michelle so getting confirmation is something else. The e-mail that tells you this is the fifth one down so be sure to look at them all to get it marked on your map. She is in Brookyln Court which is none too far from where you are. It is just above the basketball court in Earl's Court. Start talking with her and give her the photographs went prompted. You get some information but not a lot out of it. She is senile so the conversation will loop at a point. That is when you need to let go and move on to other quests.

Smash the State
As you exit the Convention Center, provided you handled things peacefully, you will encounter another friend of Adam's, Nicky. He tells you that an banger they booked a couple times is back and he has a bomb. Nicky gives you three locations the bomb could be. The one you want to investigate would be the sewers by the Police Station. Head over there, to the left, and down into the nearby manhole. Once down there, move slowly to avoid setting off the fragmentation mines Jacobs has laid down. There are five total and any of them going off will alert Jacobs to your presence unless that is what you want. Once past the mines there are three turrets to worry about. The security hub you can find by heading straight down from where you found the last mine, to the end of the current corridor and going into the second corridor on the left. It is a level 4 hack so be ready. Also be careful as White might spot you while you are hacking into the computer to disable the turrets. Doing so makes dealing with him and his Heavy Rifle much easier. Once you do, save. There is an achievement/trophy for guessing his passcode opposed to hacking it (and getting more experience). The code is simple: “0000”. Reload after  if you want the experience from the level 4 hack that is required to disable the bomb.
