Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword Walkthrough Part 23 – Inside the Great Tree
Now that you have the Dragon Scale, you can dive. This will allow you entry into the Great Tree, where you need to go to advance. Talk with the great Kikwi who hints that you sjhould look for areas you previously could not access. A perfect example is the nearby river. Dive into that, swim down and into the opening in the side of the tree.
As you swim through the tunnel, be sure to collect some air bubbles. These will keep Link from drowning and allow you to use the spin move to cut down grass as well as get through some tighter areas. When you surface at the end of the tunnel you will want to climb up the vines in front of you and turn around. Now jump onto the suspended platform in front of you. Pull out the Gust Bellows and explode a few of the Froaks just to make your life easier. Turn to the left and use the Bellows to push the platform so you can reach the ledge over there. Jump over to it and make your way to the right. Climb up and, when you can, head through the passageway on your left. Deal with the Keese in there and use the Beetle to kill of the Quadro Baba to get at the treasure chest beyond it. Now head back through the passage and go through the door to the outside that is below you.
Just as you head outside you will get access to one of the Goddess Cubes. Drop down from the second platform to reach the cube. If you do, you will need to redo the first part of the Great Tree as there are no shortcuts back. Now keep going up the platforms to the left. You will reach some vines on the top platform. Pull out your slingshot and take care of the Walltula that is hanging on the vines. Take these up to the next platform, rest there and clear the the Deku Hive as well as the Walltulas that will be in your way otherwise. Now continue upwards and to the left. You will reach another platform where you once again enter the tree.
Back inside you will want to try to avoid fighting the Moblin in front of you. It is by far the toughest enemy you have encountered and right now they are very hard to defeat. The best ways right now to hurt it are to shield bash its spear thrusts and destroy its wooden shield or simply get behind it and run. If you destroy its shield it will not thrust the spear but, instead, use a sweeping attack. You can still shield bash it but the timing is tricky. An all out assault can work surprising well. One more note though: if you fall, do not worry as you will be taken back to where you re-entered the tree and not just drop to the bottom of it. Finish the trek across the bridge to go outside again.
Just outside is a Save Statue so be sure to use it. There are a few Bokoblins along this path so be on your guard. You can easily knock them over the side of the path which does make it easier to defeat them but will eliminate any treasure you would get from them. Continue on upwards, climb the vines to encounter a cutscene where you need to find the Hermit Kikwi. He will point where you need to look to find the completed symbol so you can gain access to the Water Dragon's lake.
Head to the northern part of the Deep Woods, to the top the White Building. There you will find the symbol that you are looking for. You need to place a circle on the inside of the first arc. Now head to the southern most tip of the Faron Woods. You will find the sealed gate easily enough. Now, charge your sword for a Skyward Strike then use the energy to draw the circle on the gate. It does not have to be perfect and can be more circle-ish. Once you open the gate just dash to the end of the walkway. You have a long dive ahead of you but it will get you into the next area, Lake Floria.
