After inviting everyone up to your room and improving your social standing with your crew and squad on the Normandy, you will open up several new conversation opportunities on the Citadel that you should check out before getting too much further into the game, especially if you have any intention of romancing James. No longer in the Purgatory bar, James will be hanging out in the Docks: Holding Area, near the batarian refugees. Strike up a conversation with him.
In James’ old spot in the bar, you will be able to find Jack if she lived through Mass Effect 2 and you helped her save the children during the Grishom Academy side quest. Head down to Purgatory and find Jack to speak with her. She will thank you for saving the children, but sadly she will not be able to accompany you any further on your quest to destroy the Reapers.
You should also speak with Joker. He and EDI will also be in Purgatory, so the trip will be a short one. Find him lounging in a chair by the pulsating blue wall. Speak with him, and he will confide in you that he has been considering a relationship with EDI. This will be a more serious conversation if you had similar talks with EDI earlier, in which case you could have directed her to ask Jeff out on a date. You can either tell Jeff to go ahead with asking EDI out, and not to worry about the fact that she’s not actually a human being, or you can discourage him from dating the ship’s AI. If you are going for a good game, it might be better to encourage Jeff to date EDI. He is shy despite all of his joking, and he might not do it without your consent and prodding.
Finally, if Thane lived to see Mass Effect 3 and took the blade from the assassin, you will want to visit him in the Huerta Memorial Hospital. His son will also be there, and you will witness a touching scene between the two.
With these little scenarios taken care of, head back to the Normandy, taking care to drop off any side missions you may have completed along the way. When you are all ready, board the Normandy and prepare yourself to once again take on the Geth.
