Now that you have obtained O’Brian’s treasure map from beating him at his little drinking game (see the last guide for details on that) you can use the map to find his treasure. First things first, though. You can’t dig up a buried treasure without a shovel, so you’ll have to see an NPC named Flannigan about that. He will have set up shop to the western side of the pirate’s camp, in the little U shape digging into the mountain wall. Talk to him and search his inventory to find the shovel on sale for 150 gold. Alternately, you can complete another quest, called Pete’s Treasure (covered in the next group of guides) to get a shovel for free. Either way, you will have to have the utensil before going on with hunting for the treasure.
As it turns out, the treasure is relatively simple to find. Leave the pirate’s main headquarters and loop around its walls to the northwest. Follow the mountain range upwards towards the waterfall coming down behind the pirate’s camp. Behind the waterfall is a tunnel. Take it to reach the northern part of Tacarigua. This tunnel will take you to a beach. As soon as you step out onto the sand, turn to the left. You should see a large red X marked on the ground. This, of course, marks the spot where the treasure has been buried. Approach the cross and click the left mouse button to take out your shovel and begin to dig. You will unearth the chest in no time.
The chest will have been worth all of the trouble that you had to go through to get it. It contains all kinds of riches. First is 800 gold, enough to pay your way through many situations. You will also fish out some Emerald, along with a Bowl and a Goblet. After digging up and looting the treasure chest, you will receive 100 Glory points for completing the quest successfully. Finally, word of your success will reach Steelbeard sooner rather than later. When you approach him to make the final consideration of whether or not you’re allowed to be a part of his pirate crew, he will respect you a little bit more for winning the map from O’Brian and taking the initiative to actually hunt down and loot the treasure.
