Xenoblade Chronicles Guide- Walkthrough Part 41: Lower Tephra Cave and Mag Mell Monsters

Tephra Cave
Monster Levels: 9-13

Bunniv- Like the Bunnits, these are giant rabbits with arms instead of tails.  Many of the ones inside Tephra Cave and the Mag Mell Ruins are wielding objects in their spare hand- chunks of Mechon armor are much more common in here, though.  The ones with weapons tend to be sight-aggressive, but as before the only remarkable thing they can do is briefly knock you down.  They’re a bit tougher than before, though.

Types: Iron Bunniv, Willow Bunniv, Clap Bunniv, Mining Patrichev (Unique)

Skeeter- Nothing new to see here, sadly.  Skeeter remains a code word for ‘Giant bug that flies’.

Types: Prom Skeeter

Caterpile- Caterpiles remain giant sacks of hit points.  There are two basic kinds here in Tephra Cave’s lowest part, aptly named ‘Caterpile Nest’.  Cute Caterpile are tiny, befitting their name, and essentially harmless.  The larger ones aren’t dangerous either- but Cellar Bugworm is more than a few handfuls- make sure you’re level 13 and familiar with Chain Attacks before taking on that monster.

Types: Eater Caterpile, Cute Caterpile, Cellar Bugworm

Vang- Vang remain large bats that can cut your Ether Defence.  Strangely, they still seem to lack an Ether Attack- as long as you don’t provoke them while fighting Caterpile, you should be fine.

Types: Air Vang

Brog- Brog are still sight-aggro creatures, though these ones are easily as large as Shulk.  They’re more dangerous than anything else not unique in this part of the cave, and generally just very tough.

Types: Singing Brog

Mag Mell Ruins
Monster Levels: 9-11

Bunniv- See above, nothing really new here.

Types: Iron Bunniv, Willow Bunniv, Clap Bunniv

Lizard- These are a pack animal, meaning that even if they’re not following each other around, attacking one makes the rest fight you.  Fortunately, they’re not terribly threatening, being considerably less dangerous individually than Brog.  Just be careful, since there’s a batch of 6 right near where the giant evil lizard that nearly ate on of the Nopon lives, and fighting them alongside him is aggravating to say the least.  That one is a huge version of the Mell Lizard, and packs a devastating bleed attack if you’re not prepared for it- Shulk really can’t take this one, you need to let Reyn keep its attention.

Types: Mell Lizard, Wallslide Gwynry
