Xenoblade Chronicles Guide- Walkthrough Part 42: Upper Tephra Cave

Tephra Cavern
Monster Levels: 10-13

Skeeter- Nothing new here.  A bit tougher than previous Skeeter and a bit stronger, but really just not a threat.

Types: Medium Skeeter

Vang- Still not all that dangerous and still lacking any way to take advantage of their own debuff.  Try not to attract them while fighting something else and you’re fine.

Types: Wind Vang

Krabble- Krabble are Krabble.  The fact that these are apparently ‘Desert Krabble’ defies explanation, there being no deserts anywhere nearby, but oh well.  Krabble remain long but not too threatening fights- though these ones have Break, they can’t Topple you, so there’s no big danger from it.

Types: Desert Krabble

Brog- These things just keep getting bigger.... Just as they look, Brog are big fat powerhouses, though they still seem to lack anything truly remarkable in the way of attacks.

Types: Noble Brog, Lurking Brog

Arachno- These are the remarkable thing around here.  These are your first sound-aggro monsters- you can go as close to them as you like, so long as you walk.  The moment you start running in any direction, they -will- jump you.  Arachno are annoying, but generally lower level than the rest of the monsters around here- which is good, because they are not only a pack monster but pretty numerous.  They have a tendency to inflict Slow with their webbing, which is mostly annoying, though it can become a tactical concern when you can’t get where you want when you want.

Types: Worker Arachno, Officer Arachno, Director Arachno, Devoted Arachno, Resolute Arachno, Zealous Arachno

Vilia Lake
Monster Levels: 11-14

Krabble- See above?  Some of them are prettier, and now they give more interesting drops, but there’s not much to say.

Types: Desert Krabble, Jewel Krabble, Lurking Krabble

Lizard- As with the Mell Lizards, these aren’t anything remarkably threatening.  They’re a bit tougher than Bunniv, but lack the knockdown.

Types: Tephra Lizard

Arachno- There are only three or four Arachno in this damp area and they’re not the most impressive specimens either.  Keep an eye out for webs and adds and you’ll be fine.

Types: Greedy Arachno

Skeeter- Oh look, more giant mosquitos.

Types: Cave Skeeter

Brog- The one Brog here is positively huge.  This thing is one majorly nasty fight, and even if you’re level 14 you’re at risk- even if you have got Reyn back before you fight this thing.  Keep an eye on your health and if you have to , draw its attention off of Reyn for a little to give him some breathing room.  Fortunately, it lacks any special attacks, though it has a couple of nasty buffs for itself, one of which boosts its attack power.

Types: Gluttonous Eugen
