There’s a lesser hazard in addition to the floodgates on this map. You’ll want to keep an eye on the fountain that’s set in the middle of the small section cut off by the channel at the lowest altitude. There’s a constant chance of it spraying any Pokemon that is standing next to it at the end of each round for minor damage- but the damage can get very threatening if the Pokemon in question is a Fire-type, as the water damage is affected by weakness and resistance.
As you enter the fight in earnest, Motochika challenges you to handle the water, declaiming its spirit. Panpour and Piplup then dart over, opening the floodgates and filling the channels before returning to their prior formation. Oichi gasps in surprise, and Motochika points out his inherent advantage- all he has to do is keep your forces from reaching his and you’ll fail, as the challenger automatically loses the battle if time runs out. With the channels in the way, it’s distressingly possible for him to just ‘turtle up’ and outlast you for an automatic and easy victory. It’s up to you to reach his forces and make him deal with you.
