The Last Of Us Walkthrough Part 17 – Chapter 3: The Outside (Subway)

Head on down the stairs into the subway itself. Make the drop and then the soldiers will appear and start in after with a turret firing down on Joel and Ellie. Run around the corner, hop the turnstiles and go over to the right to find some Crafting Items. Now just head on forward running to avoid the worst of what they can do to you. Keep going forward until Joel puts on his gas mask. Head into the room on the left and there is a quick cutscene with Ellie. She pulls Joel down and tells him about the soldiers in the area ahead. There are 2 here you need to deal with in one fashion or another.

To take out the soldiers, it is easier to stealth kill them than gun them down. Hold your present position and one of the soldiers is very likely to just walk over to you. After that you have one more soldier that patrols around the train car. Take him out then head over to the tracks. Go to the far side of them then head to the end where your path forward is blocked by the trains. On the left-hand side, behind the pillar, you will likely find Supplements for Joel. Grab them then head on down the opposite way past the car and through to the other side of the subway tunnel. Head on through the trains until you get to the deep water where Ellie cannot go as she cannot swim.

Now that Joel is in the water there are a few things you should find. The first is the narrow passage. This is found on the left-hand side of the tunnel. Ellie will find a corpse with a working flashlight. Go over to the corpse and just beyond it you will find an artifact: “Smuggler Note”. Grab it then head down the passage in front of you. Dive into the water and head on through it the submerged tunnel. First surface on the right-hand side of the area to potentially find some supplements. After that go back underwater and head into the room you were standing on. Over to the right, on a table you will find a number of parts. Grab them quickly then head to the shelving on the left. There you will find another Firefly Pendant to grab as well. After that just head back to Ellie.

That way was a dead end. Head straight across and interact with the ladder to make note of it. Head over to the left now, searching around the pillars. On the right-hand side of the water you will find a floating pallet. Grab it and bring it over to Ellie. She will hop onto it and then Joel needs to take her across. Bring her over toward the ladder and she will climb up onto the ledge and then lower the ladder down to Joel. He can then climb out of the water and join her on getting out of the subway station.

Now that Joel is out of the water head down the corridor in front of him then go to the left and up the stairs. Climb over the rocks on top and you are out of the subway and done with the chapter.
