I used a precious hour of free time on Thursday night (one I could have used to play Alien Isolation) to play the beta for The Crew. This proved to be a mistake. The scope of the game seems pretty incredible, and the freedom to drive where you want, however you want, is great, but that's where my enthusiasm for The Crew ends.
In its current state (and who knows, maybe the final release will be improved) this is a game with next-gen ideas wrapped in distinctly last-gen set of issues. The frame rate and pop in aren't great, there are two many instances where you have to wait for something to load, and the handling feels less fun than it should be. There's also an off-putting storyline and clichéd set of characters, with the plot moved along with cutscenes distinctly under par for Ubisoft. I was a big fan of Test Drive Unlimited and Driver: Parallel Lines, but so far The Crew just isn't hitting the same notes.
I'm the kind of Call of Duty player who blasts their way through the campaign in the first few days before settling down into the multiplayer. But with Advanced Warfare I've gone the other way, and while I go home every night telling myself to get started on the story, I just can't drag myself away from the MP.
Does it feel as fresh or as tight as Titanfall? Perhaps not, but it's certainly the most enjoyable Call of Duty in a very long time. And with only a dozen or so levels to go until I hit Prestige, that campaign may have to wait just a little bit longer...
By now you've probably read my review of Advanced Warfare. If not, why not? I hate you. Classic you.
Anyway, apart from that I've been playing retail PES 2015 code ahead of the review embargo on Monday. I can't say too much other than if you're a PES fan, now's the time to get excited and kiss that poster of PES 3 you keep above your bed. You know, the one that features Pierluigi Collina.
