Diablo 3: The Auction House Needs Major Work

I like the fact that they added an Auction House in Diablo 3, but I’m not very impressed with the function of it so far. Being an ex WoW player makes it even worse I think, considering the nice player mods out there that made the WoW Auction House so much better.

But alas, there are no mods allowed for Diablo 3, so we’re stuck with what Blizzard releases.

Here are my top things that need to be addressed:

1) Search by name

Why oh why is this option not available? This literally had me stunned when I first realized it. In the Diablo series, the name has always been a representation of the stats of the item, so why on earth can you not search with this concept in mind? When I’m selling something, I like to see what my competition is selling it for. Right now, it’s nearly impossible.

2. Sort by name

If I can’t search by name, surely you would let me sort the column by name right? Nope..

3. Filter by name, not by stat

This goes back into the “searching by name” thing. Not only can I not search by name, which wouldn’t be so bad if I could filter by the name, “of the hawk”, etc. Instead, I have to search by individual stats that these names give. This is all fine and dandy, if there was also to filter by the name as well. This works fine I suppose once you memorize what skill every name provides, but it’s rough right now.

4. More filters

With the lack of searching by name, I would expect more filters. Currently there is only three, which seems extremely lacking to me.

5. Allow more auctions

I understand that they don’t want to flood the market with tons of garbage, but I feel like it wouldn’t be as bad as they think if the search options were better.

Basically what all of this has lead to is people primarily posting garbage at random prices, since it’s so difficult to figure out what items are selling for.

I really hope some of these get addressed. Blizzard, please listen to your user base and make some changes.
