I got a little bit lost playing Batman. I was using the Batmobile's swanky detection sensor thingy to track the Arkham Knight, and the tracks just stopped. I tried this numerous times, only for the hunt to stop at the same point every time. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it was enough to make me wander around for a bit. I stumbled across a group of men up to no good, harassing a member of the Gotham Fire Brigade. I obviously was having none of this, so stepped in to lay down some painful justice, but they ended up doing more harm to me. It took a few attempts, but eventually I got them all and the firefighter was free. Thanks to me.
SURPRISE: BURNS WINS AGAIN. The most beautiful of headlines, that, and true, as I spanked all comers at Rocket League on PS4. It's cars meets driving meets being a prick, and as such I'm pretty good at it. The game itself is good, too: containing just enough elements of 'real' football and combining it with wall driving and boost-jumping. Oh, and it's free on PS Plus as well. So there's that. Off you go.
What an ending... I'm not going to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but the last 30 minutes of Arkham Knight's main story are some of gaming's very best; an intense and worthy conclusion to the Arkham trilogy that more than makes up for those preceding tank battles.
I've very nearly 100%'d it, too, and while some of those final Riddler trophies are proving tough, I haven't found myself addicted to anything as much as this since Bloodborne. I'd be amazed if it doesn't end up in the running for quite a few GOTY awards.
Elsewhere this week I also went back to Forza Motorsport 5, which looks and plays a whole lot better than I remember. I was never particularly sold on its free-form structure at launch, but 18 months on it makes it far easier to slide back into than any traditional Career mode. It's got me excited for Forza Motorsport 6 at any rate, even if some of those special editions are a little on the pricey side.
A lot of people seem to have it in for Star Fox Zero and I can understand why. It looks terrible. Nintendo and Platinum's obvious attempts to try and ape the style of Star Fox 64 may have gone a little too far, and the stripped back style doesn't do the Wii U justice at all. It may not be a super powerhouse, but it can do a lot better than this.
Take that out the picture, however, and Fox McCloud's return isn't as bad as some people assume it will be. While the controls aren't the easiest thing to pick up, when they do start to make sense they're not so bad, and the feeling of flying through the air and firing laser guns at some peons is most definitely decent.
Its major problem will come in how it keeps itself interesting for eight or so hours. All we've seen is 20 minutes of traditional Star Fox gameplay and aesthetics... and that you can turn into a chicken. The GamePad gimmick aside we don't have much new stuff to go on.
For now, I'll remain cautiously optimistic. While getting mad that we know nothing about a new home console Zelda...
