Always keep an eye on the map. The map gives you three indicators regarding enemy distance: a red arch on the edge of the map means an enemy is relatively far away, a red cone within the map means they’re near, and a red circle around your position means they’re next to, or below you.
Use the map as a reference for finding opportune times to reload, change loadouts and head towards control points (depending on game mode).
The map’s also a great way to know if anyone is trying to sneak up behind you for a quick shotgun kill.
Back to TopSelect your equipment according to the map and game mode you’re playing. If you’re about to go into a free-for-all game on a small map, then a shotgun or hand cannon should be your secondary. A large map in a game of control is better suited to a sniper or scout rifle.
Back to TopDon’t be a lone warrior. Like Halo, enemies take quite a few bullets to go down, so it helps to buddy up and take down enemies in groups of two or three, especially in Control. However, don’t stay too bunched together, as the Titan’s slam and Warlock’s Void attack do devastating area of effect damage, and will make short work of a cluster of Guardians.
Back to TopDestiny isn’t a game for campers, so you need to keep moving. You can still get sniper kills while strafing, so don’t feel that you need to stay still while scoped. Because of the structure of most of the maps, line of site isn’t very far reaching, making it even more important to stay mobile.
Because it takes a fair few shots to kill you, escaping from battles is possible. Use your jumps and glides to get out of harm’s way, but don’t simply jump into open space, that makes you an easy target. Jump into other rooms or behind cover to get away from the combat and give your health bar time to recover.
Back to TopIf a game is too tough, and you want to back out, hold triangle/Y while waiting to respawn to head back into orbit.
Back to TopMelee attacks don’t do as much damage in multiplayer, thanks to the higher level of opposition. If you find yourself close to another player, then rotate between a melee hit and a shotgun or hand cannon blast. If you’re looking to rush in for the kill, make sure their armour is completely depleted and a good chunk of their health is taken off too.
Back to TopIf you have stun grenades or trip mines, use them on doorways and entry points. This is a great way to take and keep Control zones. Forcing your opponents into a particular path gives you the advantage. If they walk into one of your traps then they’ll still be easy pickings. Be sure to not throw your grenades down the second you get to the Control point, as they explode after a short period if no target trips them.
