The iconic cities and places in the epic trilogy of the Lord of the Rings have sparked the creativity of more than one Minecraft player. Fans have dug deeply like the dwarves who inspired them to build underground mines or stack hundreds of thousands of blocks to build the highest towers in Middle Earth. The images below come from several sources on the net and some players have even come together to recreate the whole of Middle Earth as depicted in the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, in a collaborative work that we can find on the Minecraft Middle Earth server.
Let's take a look at the best creations taken from both Tolkien's books and Peter Jackson's films.
J.R.R. Tolkien described this city as though it was "carven by giants out of the bones of the earth", and this version to be found in Minecraft is no less impressive. Minas Tirith, capital of Gondor, serves as the last bastion of the men of the West against the power of Sauron.
An unmissable part of the trilogy, the great fortress in the lands of Mordor, the Eye of Sauron watching over the rest of Middle Earth. This very faithful reproduction of the Tour Sombre took about 1 million blocks to make!
The creators of this Elven outpost have perfectly captured the setting for the iconic setting, hidden away in the valleys and rivers of the Misty Mountains.
We can easily imagine Saruman's army of 10,000 Uruk-hai descending on this ancient fortress of Rohan in a huge battle, tant the size of this reproduction is imposing.
It would be very easy to get lost in this 1:1 scale replica of the Dwarven underground city built by Tigerballs07 and a team of over 40 volunteers. Wander through its ancient halls and winding staircases that took tens of thousands of man hours to dig by hand.
The second of the two towers, the great circular fortress of Isengard is home to the corrupted wizard Saruman, its indestructible spire of black rock has been carefully built with lots of detail here.
This version of the capital of Rohan seems very faithful to the city we see perched on top of a hill in the films from Peter Jackson.
The forest in the realm of the elves that offers a space "out of time" for those who live and visit there. It took over 4 months to create and every tree is hand made (no mods).
The "Pillars of Kings" in Sindarin, the monument in the enormous stone cliffs has been carefully sculpted to welcome Minecraft players to the northern border of Gondor.
Finally, Bree, ancient settlement of men. Travellers to this quaint little village can see the stables and merchant stalls and visit the Prancing Pony, the inn where the Hobbits first met Aragorn.
