FAQ: Which MMO NPC Would You Take on a Date? .

We’re having a little fun with FAQ this week, getting in the Valentine’s Day spirit with a light hearted question about NPCs. We asked our writers this question, which NPC (from an MMO) would you take on a date and where would you go? The answers were varied without any overlap in titles even. Find out who our writers would most enjoy taking out on a date.

Ryan Ocello – Batman – DC Universe Online

DCUO_Batman

Ah, the eventual “Who would you date?” question. This is incredibly easy; as if we were to forget that DC Universe Online exists, and that it has Batman as an NPC.

This may seem like a strange answer from a straight male, and one who isn’t that particularly into comics. But I have been assured by female geek friends that if ever the opportunity to date Batman should become possible, you date Batman.

Plus, remember of who you are dealing with. He’s rich, so it will probably be a very nice date. He has an interesting job, so imagine the stories he probably has to tell. And according to all accounts he’s reportedly trained himself to be the best at everything, logically that has to include dating.

Best to make it a lunch date, Batman tends to work nights. As for location, take advantage of his Batjet to fly out to Irvine, California. This city boasts one of the lowest rates of violent crime in the nation. It’s not so boring that there is a risk of a random Joker attack, but nor is it so lively and interesting that there is risk of a random Joker attack. And thanks to southern California’s stable and warm climate you can enjoy a nice scenic walk in the park after lunch.

Conversations to avoid would be anything to do with parents, cats, or how annoying that Bruce Wayne fellow is.

Shannon Doyle – Razum-dar – The Elder Scrolls Online

Raz

Razum-dar, he is a simple Khajiit. He’s also the first person you meet after escaping the tutorial in The Elder Scrolls Online. He has confidence, he’s an agent of the Queen of the Aldmeri Dominion in the intelligence branch, and he’s good for a laugh from time to time. He may not be much to look at, unless of course you ask him, but he makes up for being non-human with his charm and his mind. But what do you do with a Khajiit? A candlelit dinner just wouldn’t do. Oh no, he needs excitement, perhaps even music to dance to. Whatever it is there must be good food, plenty to drink and most importantly, be lively.

Jonathan Doyle – Eir Stegalkin – Guild Wars 2

Eir

Bit of a tough choice. I’m a tall guy myself. I’m 6′ 6” so where humans are concerned, I tower over plenty of people. Norn on the other hand are 9 feet tall. So there’s that little hurdle.

Then there’s the fact that the last time we saw her, spoiler alert here, Eir was being an absolute diamond hard bad ass. Leaping into the air to put arrows in someone claimed by Mordremoth as the ship shatters beneath her feet?

Every Holywood Action hero ever fell in love at that moment.

Still. Eir Stegalkin, as warm as the Shiverpeaks are cold. Gorgeous, not that gorgeous people are hard to find in Tyria. Courageous and clever. She’s a tactician, she’s a strategist.

How do you give Eir Stegalkin a good date?

It’s easy. A good meal at Snowlord’s Gate. A good bath in the open air in The Shadowhorns. Then back to her lodge where I shall unleash the game of Chess on Tyria.

How else are you supposed to seduce a strategist?

Karl de Mare – No One

Forever Alone

I would date no one, and I would take them no place. The reason is not that I dislike npcs in any way or have a hard time figuring out whom to take, and I am not trying to be funny or boring in my answer. The truth is that I really cannot remember any npc at all, or any location for that matter.  Sure, I can name people or places from big franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, DC Universe and the likes. But given how this is a question on npcs in MMOs, I would really count people or places seen in other games, books or films, that is an entirely different question.

And I do not mean to disrespect MMOs in anyway, I love playing many of them and it is the only genre I have never stopped playing. But I feel that characters and story, even lore in some cases are the low point in MMOs, and I don’t really care, because it is not why I am playing them. So the short and quite boring answer would be; I would date no npc, because I can´t remember any of them.

Hannah Richardson – Thancred – Final Fantasy XIV

Thancred

Myself and Thancred have had something special going on ever since we met in the deserts of Thanalan. Beneath that rakish exterior lies a heart of gold that cares deeply for Eorzea. And me. Okay, okay, I’ll stop. I just have a thing for the misunderstood-but-heroic pretty boy and Thancred is all that. As for where we’d go for a date, I’m sure he knows better places than I do as a newer adventurer in the realms of Eorzea. Perhaps a candlelit dinner by the shores of La Noscea. Or perhaps we’d just go adventuring, that seems like the kind of date you might have with an NPC. Complete a few Fates and ride off into the sunset.

From Batman to Catboy we’ve jumped into some of the most popular MMOs currently on the market. Would you go on a date with anyone we mentioned? Is there someone else you’d rather take out? Let us know in the comments below. Keep an eye out next Friday for the next FAQ.
