Tyria Then and Now: Maguuma Jungle Part 1 .

Tyria has been through a great deal over the last 250 years since the days of the first Guild Wars game. The landscape has greatly changed, and that isn´t just because of the massive jump in graphics technology. Since the days of Guild Wars Charr have reclaimed Ascalon as their own, Kralkatorrik has created the Brand, and most recently Scarlet Briar has devastated Lion´s Arch and many more locations around Tyria after Mordremoth woke.
While waiting for Heart of Thorns to drop I decided to take a short tour of Tyria to document the changes that have happened between the games. ArenaNet has done a fantastic job of showing of old ruins and statues that once stood tall. Iconic places from Guild Wars are now nothing but a pile of ruins in Guild Wars 2. The time has now come to visit the Maguuma Jungle, home of Mordremoth and the location of the Heart of Thorns expansion. In this first part we’re looking at locations you may already be familiar with in Dry Top and the Silverwastes as well as venturing into Verdant Brink, though not far. In some cases it may be hard to pinpoint exactly where things were located because all we have to go off is geography that changes wildly and rough estimates on the map.  In part 2 we’ll go much deeper into the jungle in search of any signs of what came before.

Henge Portal

The old Henge portal leading to the Henge of Denravi is now long gone, but with its absence it seems like the wild life and nature is coming back to this desolated area.

GuildWars

Henge of Denravi

What was once the largest settlement in all of the Maguuma Jungle, is now but a beautiful memory in a hostile forest.

GuildWars

Aurora Glade

The old outpost of Aurora Glade is no more, in its stead we can find an abandoned mine that came and went over the course of these 250 years. Sad to see settlements disappeared and be replace by something that also seems forgotten.

GuildWars

Ettins Back

From Ventari´s Refuge, a place for travellers to feel safe, one could see how Ettins Back slowly was drying up losing all of its lush landscape. Now, 250 years later there is nothing but dust and sand to be found.

GuildWars
Mamnoon Lagoon

Once the Mamnoon Lagoon shined with its beautiful blue waters, covered by dense jungle and hard to reach. Now the water has all dried up and the jungle has turned to dust.

GuildWars

Quarrel Falls

In the middle of the Silverwood one could find this place of refuge among great water falls. While the place itself has collapsed, you can still see the waterfalls running out from where Quarrel Falls once were.

GuildWars

Silverwood

Silverwood was once a lush and beautiful land, unfortunately over time what life was once there has slowly been drying up. Though it is beautiful today the beauty is a dry and dusty one.

GuildWars

Bloodstone Fen

The old outpost at the skirts of Bloodstone Fen was a place where the jungle seemed gone forever, covered in sand and drought. Unlike many other parts of the jungle Bloodstone Fen has seemingly come to life.
