Need for Speed World: All About the New Drag Mode

It isn’t always about hitting the curve just right or braking at the right time… sometimes you just need to put your foot to the floor and go all out. We wanted to give you racers out there the info you need to be successful in the new Drag Mode in the free-to-play racing game, Need for Speed World. Keep checking back as we will add more info as it is released.

The New Interface

We will take you through the various steps of jumping into the new Drag Mode, starting with the all-new interface. Though you may be used to the standard HUD and user interface in Need for Speed World, there is now a more simplified version, letting players toggle their type of transmission, either automatic or manual, and a preview of your opponent’s vehicle by clicking on it.

The new HUD is comprised of four major parts: the gear indicator, the shift zones, tachometer and race information.

The gear indicator is pretty self-explanatory, as it displays what gear you are currently in.

The shift zones are probably the most important part of the new HUD as good shifting is what wins, or loses, a drag race. The higher your RPMs rise as you punch the gas, you will see different color zones. The yellow zone is a “good shift”. The green zone is a “perfect shift” that will give you an addition nitrous boost. However, you don’t want to go too far, because if you shift in the red zone, it will result in an “over rev” and a slow shift. To help you achieve those perfect shifts, the third component – the tachometer, displays your RPMs.

Finally, the race information is also a part of the HUD. This area displays vital stats, such as race time, current position and opponents in the race.

Keys to Winning

Now that we have summed up the important info, it is time to let you know what you have to do to win.

If you have ever seen a drag race in real life, you know that timing is everything. The countdown is one of the most vital parts of the race and getting the perfect start is what could set you apart from the others. Like other modes in Need for Speed World, it is important to have your RPMs in the green zone at just the right time.

Once the race has begun, you have to focus on timing your shifts right and watching your lane. There are going to be surprises in each race and you may have to dodge an obstacle or block an opponent in their own lane.

If you manage to dodge traffic, muscle your opponents and shift at just the right time, you have a good chance at crossing that finish line first.

*** An important note – if you are using the automatic transmission, you will have a “good shift” every time. If you want to get those perfect shifts, you will have to use a manual transmission. ***
