The Lord of the Rings Online: Taking on a Role in Helm's Deep

Participating in Epic Battles not only rewards players with plenty of experience points and medals, but also trait points. How many you get after each fight is determined by your performance during the battle and the amount of objectives you manage to complete. As you play through the newest feature of this free-to-play MMORPG and invest points into a certain expertise, you unlock three different skill trees that will affect your gameplay within the Battle for Helm's Deep. These roles are described as follows:

Which role will you choose?

The Engineer

Engineers have mastered the art of traps, heavy artillery and putting up defenses to ward off enemy waves. This particular role has access to traits that add a little more oomph (aka damage) to siege ammunition or weaken incoming enemies. Engineers possess the ability to set up catapults, ballistae or barricades - once they’re on the walls, they can be buffed and eventually put to good use by diminishing opposing forces. If you’re interested in siege warfare, this is the way to go.

The Officer

As the name implies, Officers are in charge of sending troops out on the battlefield and giving out orders to the Rohirric army. This role focuses on strengthening surrounding allies by giving them additional armor, health or run speed. Officers are also able to place banners which allow them to help in multiple places at once and always keep an eye out for stealthy intruders. If you put your points in the right traits, you will be able to command the Rohirrim to switch stances or concentrate on a certain enemy.

The Vanguard

Vanguards are all about getting their hands dirty and defeating anything that gets in their way. Once you have put your trait points into this role, you better start killing. The more blood you spill, the more Killstreak you build up. This allows you to trigger powerful Area-of-Effect abilities. Hero’s Death skills are used to boost nearby allies. Every point you spend will either increase your damage output, reduce your cooldowns or increase your talents’ overall effects. If you feel comfortable being at the forefront of the battle, this is probably the best role for you.

The choice is yours.
