Plants vs. Zombies 2
We recently reported that the folks over at Electronic Arts added the second part to their newest world in Plants vs. Zombies 2. The new update brought levels 11-20 to the Dark Ages. It would be an understatement to call these levels difficult since some of these stages were probably the most difficult of all the levels that we ever played in the tower defense game. We already gave some much needed advice on how to succeed in stage 12. Now, it’s time to share how we managed to get through level 14. Be prepared for some intense tower defense action.
In level 14, you also have to do more than just focus on survive. Your complete objective is to produce more than 2000 sun - and there are several reasons why this seemed nearly impossible to us. But first thing’s first: In the stage, you will encounter Peasant Zombies, Conehead Peasants, Buckethead Peasants, Knight Zombies, one Dark Ages Gargantuar, and Wizard Zombies. You will automatically be equipped with Grave Busters and Sun Beans. The stage is also covered with graves that contain sunshine. This is what level 14 looks like in the beginning!
One thing that we had to find out is that collecting sunshine from graves does not count. Only sunshine gathered by Sun Beans are added to your sunshine meter. So, instead of focusing too much on destroying graves, focus your attention on the walking dead. In order to make it through the level, you basically rely on four different plants. Equip yourself with Puff-shrooms, Fume-shrooms, Iceberg Lettuce, and a nut (shield) of your choice.
Another thing that we had to learn by doing was that the different zombies that you encounter in this Dark Ages level drop different amounts of sun. Peasant Zombies only drop 50, whereas the Knight Zombies will reward you with 300 sunshine.Don't focus too much on destroying the graves.
Let us run down a few things that will help you succeed in this tough stage:- Don’t focus too much on your defenses and rely on your lawn-mowers.
- Use as many Sun Beans as you can, but keep their recharge time in mind.
- Focus mostly on Knight Zombies and Buckethead Zombies (which will drop 250 sunshine).
- Number four: Defeat the Wizard Zombies without killing off Bucketheads or Knights too early.
- Don’t worry about the Gargantuar at all. Like, at all!
- Stall zombies before you can feed them Sun Beans and make sure to delete your plants to prevent the zombies from dying too soon.
Once a zombie has eaten a Sun Bean, you can use a green leaf to get all the sunlight at once.
Level 14 of the mobile casual game is so difficult because all of these things have to balance out at the same time. Instead of planting everything you have in order to defeat all zombies, you have to keep them alive at certain points in order to milk them for what they’re worth (almost literally). Your main priority should be to feed Sun Beans to all three to four Knight Zombies and as many Buckethead Zombies as possible. Make sure to quickly defeat the Wizard Zombies by freezing them, since all they do is distract you from your main goal.
In the final wave, two to three Knights will come out at the same time. Feed a Sun Bean to one and freeze the other and hold him back with a nut-shield before your bean recharges. Remember to keep that lane clear of plants in order to not kill the frozen zombie. Don’t be afraid to destroy your own plants with your shovel, as you should have collected enough sun at this point to quickly replant them once you need them again.
If you stick closely to our guideline, you should be able to complete the level sooner or later. Don’t expect a quick victory however! It took us many tries.
