Tank Guide: KV-5 - World of Tanks Guru

The KV-5 is a love hate relationship with many World of Tanks players.  A good KV-5 driver can hold their own against high tier tanks while demolishing low tiers while a bad kv-5 driver can be dead weight for their team and drag them to defeat.

Pros:
Good rate of fire
Good overall armor(180/150/140)
Decent speed for it’s size
Deadly ramming capabilities

Cons:
Large weak spots(mainly the front radioman turret)
Low damage
Low penetration
Bad hull traverse
Gigantic size

To play the KV-5 you need to keep in mind two key things. First off, the radioman turret(or R2D2) on the front of the tank is a massive weak spot that 90% of players will aim at.  Most tanks can pen this, so if you keep this in mind and either hide it behind another tank or cover you will take away your opponents go to shot and turn the tide in your favor.  Wiggling left/right and continuing to move will also make your enemies miss this weak spot more and do what the KV-5 does best, soak up damage and distract.  Second, keep in mind that the KV-5 weighs a massive 100tons and travels 40 km/h for it’s top speed.  This makes it one of the heavies tanks in the game and use this to your advantage by ramming low tiers, high tiers, anything that gets in your way.

Since you have a huge weak spot on the front of your tank I find it sometimes beneficial to actually expose more of your side armor(it is 150mm). Much like an is-4 angling you can angle your frontal turret weak spot away and force opponents to either hit your tracks, bounce off your 150mm armor(doesnt work against tier 8/9), or panic.

Overall while this tank can be very frustrating to play due to “meh” gun it can be enjoyable. After 393 battles in mine I sit at 560 tank destroyed with 656,000 damage.

I give the KV-5 a 4/5
