Facebook Game Review: Street Rally

Streetrally is an enjoyable Facebook game with social element that also comes packed with style, graphics, and several modes of play. There are a lot of browser games out there, but few that offer any kind of repeat play value. So what makes Streetrally stand out of the pack?

It is one of those Facebook titles that offers players additional reasons to come back for more. It even incorporates some features that are found in most console games (Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii), like world and regional leaderboards as well as challenges. There are even various models of cars to choose from, each having their own strengths and weaknesses. But what really makes this game awesome is that it’s a Facebook app. This gives you both a reason and a means to challenge your friends to a race. And the great thing is, once you beat them into submission, you can brag about it to all your other friends.

Gameplay is what really entices gamers, no matter how good the graphics are, if the gameplay sucks, then it’s over. That’s the great thing about Streetrally, its gameplay is familiar but not overdone, and it’s just varied enough to be unique. And the graphics are certainly nothing to scoff at either. Streetrally utilizes an overhead view (similar to the first two grand theft auto titles) that allows you to see what’s going on all around you. The maps are also interesting and varied, each with its own unique design and scenery. And it’s also fun to just do “donuts” and watch the tire marks on the asphalt pile up. Or race against the shadow car (your previous race) and try to beat the record!

Most flash / browser games are intentionally designed to look like a cartoon or an animated graphic design project; Streetrally is like an evolved and graphically enhanced version of an original NES or SNES game. The game employs a range of special effects not found in flash based games these days. As someone who plays a lot of Xbox LIVE arcade games, I can tell you that this game has a lot in common with those types of games. The only difference, of course, is that Xbox live arcade games cost around $10 and up and Streetrally is Free. Ding, we have a winner!

What makes Streetrally worth your time? It looks great, it’s easy to master and it’s fun to destroy your friends on Facebook, over and over again. This game is definitely one of the better flash / browser titles that I have recently come across, and certainly not to be missed. So start your engines and give Streetrally a try right now!
