Vainglory is a popular new MOBA that was created in the image of similar games League of Legends and DOTA 2, the main difference being that Vainglory was designed exclusively for mobile devices.
Two opposing teams on either side of the field fight through the field in attempt to reach the enemy’s crystalline Vain which they must destroy in order to win. Each team fights for control of what is referred as a lane, which connects the two bases, clearing the lane will allow you easy access to the Vain, thus resulting in your win. Mobs will randomly generate at either side of the field, these work to protect your Vain and also help you defeat any enemies you encounter in the lane. Beating any enemy creeps or turrets will grant you with experience and gold.
In Vainglory, each team on either side of the field will have three players each. Each player controls an avatar, also known as a hero, which allows them to travel through the matches, fighting off mobs and protecting their own Vain.
Each playable map has a variety of different number lanes, some maps are only single lane maps, whereas, some are triple lane map. The areas that are just off the lanes are referred to as the Jungle, you can fight for the capture of control points which will reward you with extra gold and your minions will gain increased strength. The control points which you battle over have several different types, such as the minion mines which are typically guarded by a neutral minion which offers a nice reward to the team that defeats him; there is also a gold mine which is guarded by a miner that rewards teams with gold upon his defeat. The final enemy type is the Kraken who will usually show up within the first fifteen minutes of your match, this minion can be captured and recruited by one team in order to provide themselves with a better chance at winning. The team who recruits the Kraken is usually the team that ends up winning the entire match.
There are ten different hero options available for you to pick from, each hero comes with different characteristics and skills. None of these heroes are better than any others, to create a fairer match; however their stats differ from hero to hero. One hero might have an advantage whilst fighting in lanes but be at a disadvantage whilst fighting in the jungle area, whilst another character might have the advantages and disadvantages in reverse, which make them equal, but stronger in their chosen fields.
The characters that are available for you to pick from for free usually switch up every week while you are also able to purchase other characters and keep those forever.
All of the more popular elements of a MOBA are integrated into the game, only they are presented in a way that makes the game type work on a mobile device. Vainglory has huge potential to one of the best games available of the app store. I can also see it being one of those games that attract many different types of gamers from a variety of different genres.
Vainglory is currently running version 1.1.5 and requires your device to be running at least iOS version 6.1 or later. At the moment, Vainglory is only available to play in English, which could hinder players that don’t speak English. The game is available to download for free from the app store where it has a four and a half star overall rating. Players can also purchase the games premium currency from the in app store.
There are five different packages of ICE available for players to purchase. A six hundred pack costs $4.99, a thirteen hundred pack costs $9.99, a two thousand six hundred and forty pack costs $19.99, a six thousand nine hundred pack costs $49.99 and a fourteen thousand four hundred pack costs $99.99. ICE can be used to purchase Heroes at a lower rate than if you were to just purchase them with coins.
Vaniglory is already such an incredible game even within its very short amount of time around. It is one of those games that has the greatness and potential to be a huge hit in the app store. I can see it becoming one of those games that attracts gamers from many genres and platforms.
Like many MOBA games, resources are a big part of your success as a player. Vainglory is no exception, gold and glory are crucial to building your character’s strengths and inventory. Gold can be earned over time or you can purchase bundles of currency. If you don’t want to spend your money, then you need a hack.

This way, you’ll have a better idea of what each hero is like so you’ll know which ones you fight with better and which ones you don’t fight with well at all. Luckily, the game does have an offline practice mode, whilst there isn’t really very much to these practice arenas, they are a great way of getting to know all of the heroes. playing through the practice arenas are also a really good idea as they allow you to get to know the gameplay before you’re ready to play actual matches with other people. Whenever you’re about to use a hero you haven’t played with before or you haven’t played with for a while, it’s a good idea to a get a quick practice in before you go ahead with your public match.
When it doubt, check out the shop. Like every other game on the app store, Vainglory comes with an in app store with a huge variety of things you can buy to improve the stats of your hero. Make sure you pay attention to exactly what each item might do to your hero of choice. The majority of what is in the store can only improve your hero and fighting tactics. To try out any purchased items, try them out in the practice arena.
It is typically quite difficult to ensure that your team is totally balanced, especially with the fact that there is no in game communication between players (although some kind of chat feature has been planned for a future update). The game allows you to create a selection of heroes that you are considering picking, this allows other team members to choose their own heroes accordingly so that a healthy balance of statistics is created within the team. If you have your eye on one specific hero that you would like to pick, choose quickly and before any others have a chance to pick, so that teammates can accommodate your choice.
When playing the game, ensure that you remain wary of the Jungle area as the battle can get very hectic in that area. The neutral mobs that remain in the area can make your game experience very interesting; they can literally make or break the match. Take advantage of the overgrowth area in the Jungle as it offers a great hiding place for your heroes. The Jungle also serves as multiple shortcuts around the barrier, which is something that makes getting though the arena a whole lot easier.
If you find that the Kraken has been unleashed, don’t despair, even if you feel as though you’ve just been given an automatic death sentence. It’s imperative that you don’t play as though the game is over if the kraken is unleashed, it may be big and powerful, but keep in mind anything in this game can be killed. Try to be on the team that does beat the kraken as the one who beats the giant monster gets a huge experience boost and a bunch of gold, which is definitely something that helps in leveling the playing field. At the same time though, don’t bring yourself into a false sense of security because you think that you’ve already won the whole game if you’re the team that isn’t battling the Kraken. Don’t get cocky, because the tide could quite easily turn on you for the worst. It’s quite possible that the team on the end of the Krakens attacks could end up beating it and winning.
If you do find yourself as one of the members of the team with the power to unleash the Kraken, after it has been unleashed, don’t let up on your attacks because you thing that the Kraken has it in the bag, keep fighting and distracting your opponents so that the Kraken is able to last as long as possible, which is definitely something that will increase your chances of winning that match. Becoming too much handle for the other team is a great tactic.
After playing the game for quite some time, I found myself feeling very impressed with how well the game works on a touch device. This was actually one of my biggest apprehensions when it came to playing this game. I’ve played a lot of PC MOBAs, some of which have been sketchy at best, so I really wasn’t sure how well one would do with touch controls rather than the traditional keyboard and mouse. The game was actually very well done and caused minimal confusion at the most difficult of points. The whole help menu system is implemented impeccably; they appear to be filled with everything that you might need to know, unlike a lot of other games currently on the market. These menus also offer incredible tutorial videos just in case you’re a visual learner and can figure out the game easier through video of the gameplay of others.
When it comes to the selection of heroes, you really see the whole freemium element at play, although, the great thing is that the free heroes rotate every day so you can play with all of the heroes over a period of time. Many of the heroes are available for purchase if you want them permanently, this is how you can spend your glory (which is the non-premium game currency). I didn’t feel as though as was being pushed into buying any premium currency at this point because many of the heroes that I wanted could be purchased with glory rather than ICE. this is a refreshing change in comparison with the many free to play games that are out there right now.
The battle can take fifteen to thirty minutes to play out completely which is great because you can really spend some time playing the game, in comparison to many of the more popular games that are around right now, that you can only really enjoy playing for five or ten minutes. The matches aren’t even as complicated as those that feature in PC MOBAs, which definitely gives Vainglory a one up over those.
So far, I can honestly say, I love a lot about what this game has to offer; the experience is like any other MOBA, but with a lot less complication, even so, it still manages to keep the excitement and strategy that MOBAs are well known for. There is a lot to take advantage of in this game, so it definitely deserves a shot at being one of the better games on the App Store.
Considering the fact that Vainglory is free to download, you don’t really have anything to lose in trying this game out. I would even say that Vainglory is one of the very best MOBAs on the App Store. It offers you a great experience full of excitement; it even seems attractive to experienced MOBA players whilst also attracting the interest of those who wouldn’t ordinarily be interested by this type of game. To be blunt, you have to check out this incredible addition to the word of gaming. You will not regret it.
Artwork: I give Vainglory a 9/10 for its Artwork. For a game that depends on it heavy graphics and such, which may not always work too well on mobile devices, Vainglory actually looks really good. It definitely looks like a MOBA at any rate! I was seriously impressed at how well it had been done, because, like I said, I really wasn’t sure how well this game was going to work. I was expecting a horrific mess, I’m glad to say that I was totally wrong. The art of the game has also inspired various artist of the internet world to create some awesome fan art too!
Music and SFX: I give the game a 9/10 for its music and SFX. To call the soundtrack of this game ‘epic’ would seriously be putting it lightly. The music contributes to the intense feel of this game so much. Some pieces have a certain mysterious and ambient feel about them. Striding through the battlefield with low health whilst the soundtrack plays in the background makes you feel like you can do just about anything in this game.
Story and Originality: I give the game an 8/10for its story and originality. I absolutely love that each of the heroes you can play as has their own backstory, because of this, whichever hero you play as, you almost know exactly why they are fighting. There is even a huge fan fiction following of this game which is absolutely incredible. As for the originality of the game, I can’t really say much, it’s pretty much like the majority of other MOBAs on the market with one distinction, it’s on mobile, which mean it’s portable. How many other MOBAs can say that you can play them anywhere? Not many! Which is definitely something that makes Vainglory stand out from all of the others on the market.
General Gameplay: I give the game an 8/10 for its general gameplay. I experienced little to no frame rate drop or lag while playing the game, something which is usually something that will make or break a MOBA for me. The game also features a whole ton of helpful things which make this game much easier to navigate through.
Addictiveness: I give the game an 8/10 for its addictiveness. I found that whilst the game can be very addicting, after a few games, you do begin to feel a little overwhelmed with everything. Because of how frustrating the game can be, especially when you’re on what seems to be a straight losing streak, it’s easy to just put the game down for a while, but you always end up coming back for another match in the hope of ending your losing streak.
Overall, I rate Vainglory 8/10.
