When you start this game, the first thing you will notice is that the buildings are all done in a variety of colors and look animated as far as the 2D imaging goes. The whole town is bright and full of color and it almost appears a little cartoon-like, which goes with the theme of this being based off of a cartoon. You will also be able to go into the Shop and change the background images, so you can choose from a beach to a farmland and everything in between, which gives this game a lot of variety. You will also notice that you get a certain amount of Bling and Hearts to start out the game, so you want to be careful on when and what you spend this on starting out. You will need to build some buildings and make your town better, which does use some of the currency money you start out with. You can also choose to speed up the building process, but this will really take away from your start out money, so it’s best to wait for the buildings to finish on their own.
There are two different types of currency in this game, which is Bling and Heart. The Bling is the main form of currency and it’s like the premium of the game, but it is not always easy to get the Bling. You only get the Bling when you are doing a quest, but you can purchase the Bling through the in-app purchase section, and this does require real money to purchase. Heart is basically the currency that is used during the games and activities, and is also used when you are playing the Lucky Paws giveaway game. You can only get the Hearts if you are visiting the towns of your friends, then clicking on an item that says in-town. You will see these items all over the place and it can be a number of items including books, tea, fruit, balls, paint-buckets and mirrors.
When you load up the game, you will also notice that the game has the ability to connect to Facebook, which is really cool because that is how you can play with your friends, and it will provide you with even more ways to enjoy your pets. The social connection is useful because you can visit all of your friends and there are often hidden items and objects in their towns, which gives you another way to earn free gifts.
As you progress through the game, you have the ability to earn more rewards in the forms of Bling and Kibble. The Kibble is one of the main ways you can level up during this game, almost like a form of an experience point, but this game really doesn’t have an actual experience point setup. You can get the Kibble for doing just about anything within the game, including playing the mini games and feeding your pet. You can go through the Store and also get items with the Kibble or if you are high enough level as far as Kibble goes, you will be able to start increasing the types of items you can play with. You want to continue collecting pets through the game, since more pets will allow you to do more of a variety of things in the game, and the more pets you have the better your rewards and free items will be.
One great part about this game is that you can buy different houses for your pets and buy the houses in different areas, but some of the houses can be expensive, and it’s hard to build up the currency amount for some of these houses on your own. The game is really fun because the pets all do certain dances and some of them squeal with excitement when you play with them or feed them, so it’s almost like you have your own little farm of cute animals that you can do what you want with.
Overall you will find this game is best suited for children because you will find it does get a little boring after a while, especially since there are not that many games you can play, so the main focus is on collecting pets and playing with them. It’s a great game if you are a fan of the cartoon and enjoy taking care of virtual pets, but unless you do play on spending real money, it will take forever to level up and be able to purchases the nicer kitchens and houses. You will also find that you are limited in a lot of the things you can buy or unlock until you reach certain levels, which can be frustrating, especially if you are someone that can’t play the game very often, but it will definitely make you smile when you can play the game.
Gameplay: The gameplay in this game is really smooth, without any lag or connection issues, and you have the ability to play with friends which adds a nice element to the gameplay. This game easily gets an 8/10 on gameplay because there is a lot of variety as far as collecting pets and then playing with them, as well as taking care of them and bathing them. You will find yourself immersed in the story of each pet and you will laugh at their expressions and just find it overall enjoyable to play. There does seem to be a little bit of unoriginality in this game, so you might find that some of the gameplay you’ve seen before in other games, but this game does really shine, especially with the details and graphics.
Music: The music and sounds in this game are pretty good, since a lot of it is a spin off of the cartoon, so you will recognize a lot of the voices and sounds from the cartoon. The music is limited but what music is in the game is fun and kind of positive music, so it’s not loud or annoying in any manner. Most of the sounds in this game come from the voice acting, which is all very good, and also fits right into the narrative of the cartoon show. Your child will probably enjoy the music and voice acting more than you though, since this game is mostly aimed at the younger audience. Overall the music and voice acting gets a solid 8/10 because it’s fun and keeps you interested in the game.
Graphics: In terms of graphics, Littlest Pet Shop is pretty magnificent in this area, because the pets are very detailed with a lot of cute animations and expressions. You will find yourself amazed at how well the design of the land and the grass is in this game, and also how graphically-intense the mini games are. When you bathe your pet you will also see the bath tub and bubbles coming out, so the designers really went into a lot of detail when planning every part of this game. This game gets a 9/10 on graphics because the 3D images and details will really just blow you away.
Overall: Overall you will find this game to be enjoyable, especially as you get more pets, and begin to level up and earn more rewards. This game gets a 7/10 overall because while the graphics are really amazing, there are a few things, like the fact in order to get really good without having to play for hours, you have to purchase the in-app items. You don’t need to purchase the items with real money, since you have Kibbles and Bling, but it will still take quite a while to be able to get all the items you want unless you do decide to purchase the items with real money in the beginning of this game. This type of gaming is known as “freemium” since the game is really free, but to get the best items and highest levels in a decent amount of time, it will almost persuade you to purchase the in-app items. The mini games and graphics are two of the best features of this game, but there isn’t too much in the way of game variety, so you might get a little bored after a while and it can be a little unoriginal at times. Since you can get up to 150 pets though, it will definitely keep you or your child entertained for hours.
