Mo experience, mo money, mo items: the Mo Monsters guide

If you're just dying to play a game that's a bit like Pokemon, and you don't want to pay a penny for it, then you're in luck: Mo' Monsters is available now.

But getting all the monsters in this game may seem like a daunting prospect. Perhaps you may be concerned that you won't have the ability to see the game through to completion. Maybe you're worried your Grum isn't levelling up fast enough.

Well put aside your fears, because the Pocket Gamer guide is here to help.

Gamblers victorious

When starting out, don't worry about which monster you pick. It will be weak against some foe's attacks, and will land highly damaging blows against others. Take your time, relax, and just pick the one you like the look of.

You should have no problems conquering the first stage within your first play session. Simply go through the title as instructed (it'll pretty much guide you along the way as it details some of its systems), but don't forget that you have a stock of potions at your disposal should your monster be injured.

Use these health potions as much as you like. You'll get plenty of opportunities to acquire more with the copious number of free spins you'll receive on the roulette wheel - you know, the one hosted by the weird old man who's lost his trousers. Never go into a battle without full health, as it'll put you at a massive disadvantage, especially early on in the game.

When you do need to buy potions (or any item for that matter) always buy in bulk. Save up to afford a throng of capture traps; don't buy them piecemeal. It's simple economics in the end: buying more costs less in the long run.

Another good tip in regards to items is to plump for Slot Tokens instead of buying the stuff you actually want. It's a bit of a risk, but if you've got a chunk of change in your bag then this little gamble can easily pay off dividends. You don't always get amazing stuff, but you can win items that usually cost gems, and that's a very good thing indeed.

Catch 'em all

By the second area (and certainly beyond), you should have a fairly good grasp on how the game wants you to play it. It largely boils down to ensuring you're at maximum health, and choosing the best attacks you have.

Another thing to keep an eye out for (especially in two verus two battles) is which of your strikes is proving "super effective" against certain enemies. In any two on two you'll want to alternate your strikes against your opponents to find out who you should be aiming for early in a match. Get rid of one entrant quickly, and the other is guaranteed to topple.

It almost goes without saying, but have a pair of monsters at your finger tips that are your real heavy hitters. Going and capturing more is all well and good, but having a rock solid duo to fall back on will see you through any sticky situation.

Make sure you're maximising their performance by upgrading their abilities. After you've levelled up, you'll sometimes be asked what skill you want to improve. Let it be known that you should always choose the strength option. Taking out an enemy quickly will serve you better in more situations throughout the game, so anything that increases your stats in this field is a lifesaver.

Finally, a word on capturing. There are traps in the game that offer 100 per cent success against any target. These are your best friends in any instance where you have the opportunity to capture an adversary, though they often cost gems. As noted above, stick around the One Armed Bandit long enough and you'll have a bunch of them in your arsenal.

As always, if you've got any hot hints, super secrets, or top tips of your own then, for heaven's sake, share them with the world in the comments box below. Else we'll think you're selfish, and you wouldn't want that, would you?
