When it comes to anything Ice Age, I can never throw enough praise at it. Originally released as a promotion tool for the newest movie in the series at the time – Ice Age Continental Drift (2012), the game quickly gained popularity and grew to be fairly successful. For a game that has the purpose of advertising something else, it is actually of surprisingly good quality, the people who automatically assume that this game is just an advertisement game, whilst you wouldn’t be wrong, you would be totally missing out on an insanely fun game.
The game mostly sticks with the same storylines that are familiar from the movies, you soon learn the that ice that covers the earth is slowly starting to melt, bringing the ice age to an end, along with the ice, the land mass itself (known historically as Pangea) is beginning to break and form the earth that we know today. Because of this, you are given the important task of developing a new place to live for the iconic characters of the movies.
Currently Ice Age Village is running version 1.3.0 and requires your device to be running at least iOS version 5.1 or later. Since this game has already had several updates, the majority of all bugs should have already been taken note of and fixed, however, these thing will pop up where the developers least expect it, so if you do notice any kind of bug in your game, I suggest that you go ahead and report it to the developer through either social media, their site or by email, this way the problem will be brought to the attention of the developers who can then work on a fix for a future update. The game has in app support for many languages across the world, so the game should be playable to many individuals wishing to try it out. The game can be downloaded for free from the app store with the added option of buying further in app content. The game currently has a four and a half star rating and has received a glowing response from players who have left many praise filled reviews on the app store.

Coins can be used to buy general items and animals whilst acorns can be used to speed up tasks such as breeding and building, which can be very useful if you don’t have all that much time to play the game.
It looks like we’re just going to have to do this the old fashioned way, without cheats and following some golden tips and tricks to help you get the best out of your game.
So first up, you’ll notice when you first start out the game, your collection buildings for berries and shell have a pretty low max capacity, this can be bad quickly, especially when you find that you need a certain number, but alas, you don’t even have enough space to store the number you need! By exploring further out, you’ll find that you will soon need to expand these storage buildings, because every time you cut something down, you end getting shells back and when you’re clearing the land where you’re going to be building, that could potentially give you a lot of shells, ergo, you need a bigger storage building. So really, what you’ll need to do is to just expand these building as quickly and as soon into the game as you can. Although if you don’t have any goal that require you to spend a certain number of berries or shells, just returning home and spending some of the gathered items works too, that way you’re not just filling up to your max and wasting everything else that you find that could be used for something good. Plus, upgrading habitats and building are sometimes requirements for other tasks too, so it’s a win/win really.
If you find yourself getting low on supplies, you needn’t worry, there are multiple resource points on your island, these can contain a variety of things, and they may even occasionally contain a baby animal. You just tap the icon floating above the mountain landmark and spin the roulette wheel that comes up. They can contain a variety of things so make sure that you check all of the landmarks you come across. The great thing about these is that you can use them more than once, albeit with a cool down period in between spins, since there are more on every new island you unlock, it’ easy to just unlock a new island without actually doing anything on It until you’re ready, you only need to pay for access to the island once, after which you can travel freely between islands without any extra cost.
If you’re going to run a sled baby rescue, I would recommend that you spend some of your berries before you start. The game is super simple and it gives you ample opportunity to earn a hefty number of berries, the number of which varies but will usually total above 150 berries, so make sure your berry storage has the space to contain this number, otherwise playing this mini game loses any point it may have had.
When you’re playing through the match three mini game, make sure you pay attention to any special pieces and take advantage of them, these can boost your score quickly and easily. Basically, if you’ve played candy crush before, you’ll know what you’re doing, so do yourself a favor and use those pieces to get one really awesome score.
Before moving on to a new island, I would suggest that you finish completely clearing all the debris and such from it. If you take a look at the map screen, you’ll see which islands still have remaining animals and key items, be sure to collect all of these as they will typically be crucial to the development of your next island.
If you find yourself getting a little low on berries, work on upgrading the home of animals as this week up the production of more berries, this basically acts as an energy system, waiting for your berry number to rise so you’re able to resume regular gameplay. If you tap the habitats, you’ll see an option to feed your animals, it will cost you some of your shells to feed them, so only do this if you’re absolutely desperate for the berries.
You’ll need plenty of coins and acorns to build your Ice Age Village. Getting these resources means you either have to save them up as you earn them or choose to pay with real money. That’s why we’ve added the hack tool for Ice Age Village.

New things is one of the biggest things a developer can do for a genre and it’s something I know I really admire in the people who make games – the ability to add something entirely new to a tried and tested genre can be what really makes a game. In Ice Age Village, very few restrictions are really placed on you unlike in the majority of other social city builder sims, for example, you’ll have the ability to breed the majority of animals available in the game. Sure, spending a little cash can get you there quicker, but the fact that it’s not just another freemium game where you have to buy particular special things to have a really awesome game experience really makes this game a lot better, because you know at the end of the day when you have that wooly mammoth, that you worked your butt off to make a really cool village for all of your little ice age friends to live in.
If this still hasn’t gotten you convinced and you’re just seeing this game as another Dream Zoo type game, well, sure you’d be right, but the flow of this game is so much smoother and you’ll find that actually getting through the game is a whole lot easier, you progress a lot faster, so the game isn’t just comprised of you sitting around and waiting for something to happen that you can act on. The money you earn in game comes quickly, so you find that you can always have some kind of project going, so you’re never at a loss of what to do, which in turn, makes long play times on this game very, very inevitable.
Alongside this, you’ll also have assigned activities that you can complete for special bonuses, again, meaning that you’ll always have some kind of indication of which direction to move in, in case you get stuck. Low on money? No problem, just tap the eggs to get a little extra cash. If you do still find yourself getting bored with the main game, that’s not a problem either, because there are mini games that you can play to keep things interested, for example, one of the mini games is a fruit ninja type game where you are playing as the ever loveable Scrat while he tries to swipe at some pesky leaping piranhas, whether he’s trying to eat them or just trying to get rid of them, we will never know.
The great thing about the game having goals is that it gives a really good idea of which way you ought to be going in, you know which home you need to build next, or which decoration you’ve got to place, sure some of these goals, especially the building ones, can take quite some time to fully complete, the rewards for completing the goal itself are well worth the time and effort that you placed into its completion.
This is a game that you can connect your Facebook up to, which means; Yay! Time to pester your friends with endless requests for stuff. Another bonus is that whilst visiting your friends villages, you’ll be able to play a mini game that distinctly reminds me of sticking my nose in a good Where’s Waldo puzzle. Whilst it isn’t really all that fulfilling, it still gives another little extra fun thing to do outside of the main gameplay.
As I said earlier, Ice Age Village was originally designed as an advertising accompaniment to hype up the movies a little bit, so you can expect a little Ice Age movie plugging in the game, especially when you get to building the movie theater, where you will be able to watch an exclusive original short film that takes [place within the Ice Age universe, this is definitely a nice little bonus for those people that just can’t get enough of Ice Age.
Coming away from this game with the feeling of satisfaction is a very easy thing to do, particularly if you’re already a fan of the series, but even those that don’t really like the movies all that much will still probably end up getting quite a bit of enjoyment from the game. Whilst it definitely would have been good to have had the game show more on the social side, as it stands currently, the gameplay is well designed and rarely offers a dull moment. Considering that the game is free, everyone should give it a chance, because I doubt it will disappoint.
Artwork: I give Ice Age Village a 6/10 for its artwork. I’ll admit, whilst cute, the artwork of this game is not all that good, don’t get me wrong, everything is colorful and looks how it is supposed to, but really, there doesn’t actually seem to be anything particularly special about it. It looks like it was something that was just hastily thrown together, which really I suppose it was, it was never really meant to be anything huge for the Ice Age people, it was just there to attract the attention of more younger kids so they pester their parents to take them to go and see the new Ice Age movie. It’s disappointing because I feel like this game could have been made to look so much better than it does.
Music and SFX: I give the game an 8/10 for the music and SFX. The music of this game is very jaunty and upbeat matching the cheery nature of the game. It was a perfectly selected piece of music, but that’s all it is, just a single piece of music, through the entire game, all of the time. It’s a really nice piece of music but it gets old and very annoying very quickly, ten minutes into the game I just shut off the sound completely. There wasn’t really a whole lot in the way of sound effect, which is disappointing because this game has so much potential for some really great sound effects, so they’re just selling themselves short by not developing on this a little.
General Gameplay: I give the game an 8/10 for its general gameplay. This game definitely doesn’t go lax on its content. There is plenty of variety when it comes to thing to do; there are a whole bunch of mini games to play through and plenty of tasks which you can work on. Unless you end up completely finishing the game, then you’re never going to be at a loss for what to do. The game runs smoothly maybe 95%of the time, however I did experience some freezing issues every once in a while, but this would only last mere seconds, so it didn’t bother me too much.
Story and Originality: I give the game a 7/10 for its story and originality. I really loved the story behind this game. I love any game that takes the time to actually develop a story because it always give it that sense of flow that many games desperately need, it also provides you with a sense of why exactly you’re doing what you’re doing in the game. I especially love the fact that this game incorporated a lot of what had already been established within the Ice Age universe whilst still adding brand new never seen before things. You get enjoy the things you already know from the series whilst getting to experience brand new characters and stories you hadn’t previously known.
Addictiveness: I give the game an 8/10 for its addictiveness. I can definitely see why people love this game, there is plenty of content and rarely a dull moment, you always have something to do and it’s not difficult to really get into the groove of playing. The only thing I can really complain about is the fact that it is so easy to run out of your berries, leaving you to either sit around and wait for your animal families to produce some more or go ahead and spend your precious acorns on buying more, but then again, at heart this is another freemium game. Overall, I did really enjoy playing this game and it’s definitely one I’ll be keeping around for a while. It’s free to download so really, you’re not losing anything by merely trying the game.
Overall, I rate Ice Age Village 7/10. More improvement is needed, but the game is still a lot of fun.
