MonsterBusters are playable for both Android and iOS, they’ve recently updated the app on April 24, 2015 to fix minor bugs and stability, as well as adding a new episode to the game. Out of a 5 star rating on Google Play store, MonsterBusters received a score of 4.6, a total of 363,223 people have given this addictive game a 5 star review.
There are over 1,900 stages with each episode with a different challenge. The game includes different adventures where you can do secret quests or even see how you stand with other players in their weekly championships. MonsterBusters also updates the game during the major holidays, such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, and others! So the theme changes during each holiday and you aren’t bored with looking at just one background. There are also wandering monsters in the tower! If you click on them, some of them will burst and give you coins!
In MonsterBusters, you will also have a chance to not spend any coins to gain extra lives through “Revival Chance.” Revival Chance appears when you run out of lives for the first time. You have to smash any wooden board and you are able to win up to three extra lives. This game also does a “Daily Stamp,” which means they give you a stamp each day for logging in. Besides getting a stamp, you also get bonus coins. As you login for more days, the bonus coins reward will be larger. On the 7th day you will get a very big bonus coin!

For each level, you can get up to three stars. The highest score you can get is a three star, and the lowest is a one star. Unlike many games that don’t offer more coins and or game items when you replay a level, MonsterBusters lets you gain coins and in game items whenever you replay a level. This is a great feature of MonsterBusters because you are able to exchange the coins for extra lives!
Although one of the best features of this game is the option of exchanging coins for extra lives, one of the major downfalls and complains by players is the waiting time to receive the Golden Keys for the next episode. One golden key is given every 6 hours, if you don’t want to wait you can buy the keys at the shop with either game coins or cash, the other option is to ask your friends to send you the key.
There are a total of five different boss types. They are all a different color, ranging from green to orange, pink and blue, and orange and green. In order to defeat the boss monster, you would want to match the surrounding mini monsters around the Boss. Another tip is, if you are stuck and you don’t know how to start a game, then you can start from the bottom! Many times we play games starting at the top, but if we change the angle we look at the game, we’d end up with a solution that we would have never seen before!
This isn’t really a tip or a cheat, but more of a “you should know.” Although your friends can send you keys to unlock doors to advance through levels, these keys are episode selective. Meaning, that if your friend sends you a episode 8 key, you can only use it to unlock the door for Episode 8.
I personally really enjoyed this game because of the cute graphics and addictive game play. The little monsters remind of RPG game monsters, and even the boss battles were a super eye opener! Many puzzle games do not have a “boss battle,” and this lets the player experience a new gameplay altogether in the one game. I really love the design of this app, as it is really smart. I’d imagine the game takes place in a tower, with many doors to open, and as you complete and pass each door you continue until you advance to the main boss.
Since I am a big fan of RPG games, I really enjoyed how at the end of each stage, they gave a boss for the players to fight. I thought this was really smart because although not a lot of people play a wide variety of genre of games, if PurpleKiwii decides to make a RPG app game, then it would be a hit because MonsterBusters already introduced this style of game to the players.
Artwork: 9/10 for the Artwork! The game features a distinctive RPG and puzzle game artwork, which one can consider MonsterBusters a game of two different genre. The unique artwork and alluring style draws in the players to remind them of fairy tales and also modern day games. I really enjoy the different themes as well that is available during different holidays. I loved seeing how the designers show that they care about MonsterBusters because they take the time to change and redesign the game whenever there is a new holiday! The animation in this game also doesn’t lag! Who likes a lagging animation? It’s very smooth, and the colors and graphics really pop when you are playing this game.
Music & SFX: 7/10 for the music and SFX. I really like the music and the SFX, especially the SFX on MonsterBusters because I really enjoy the sounds it make when I battle the boss or make a special combo. Sometimes, I just turn off the music and enjoy listening to the SFX when I swap a monster and create a combo!
Story & Originality: 9/10 for story and originality because I haven’t seen any other puzzle game that features an RPG style. A lot of people like to play RPG style but they do not have the time to battle all the bosses. For this game, you only have to battle the final boss and it saves a lot of time. The puzzle challenges are already very interactive and mind challenging since it is for all ages. I really enjoy the mini tower on the right side of the game because it shows you how far ahead you are with your friends, and it clearly makes you want to do better and replay each level till you are number one amongst your friends!
General Gameplay: The general gameplay rating would be a 7/10 because although this game runs very smoothly on both Android and iOS, you cannot run this game without Wifi. This is a negative part of this game because, many people would like to play this game on the way to home or on the train underground. This makes it hard for people to continue to advance in levels while they have extra time away from school or work. I think that many more people would be playing this game in school, College Students, if they also turned off the Wifi option, since not a lot of students have unlimited data plan and not all schools provide a wifi option either.
Addictiveness: I give a 7/10 for addictiveness because even though this game is very addicting, you cannot play it without wifi and this really kills the mood. If PurpleKiwii would change this feature in their game, I would give this a rating of 9/10 because the theme of RPG and battling bosses and monsters are something you don’t see in every game.
