Tips & Tricks

Start in an isolated region. If these island-type regions close their ports before the infection spread you can start the game again. Great picks would be Greenland, Madagascar or New Zealand. Caribbean and Iceland are good picks as well but I noticed that for some reason they get infected even though they are isolated.

At the beginning you should focus only on 2 things: Transmission and Infectivity – your plague needs to spread fast and infect as many people as possible. By doing so, even though it is not lethal you will receive a lot of DNA research points so you can develop other aspects.

In order for you created disease to spread you need to get familiar with the abilities and transmissions possibility. If you start your plague in Canada it would be worthless to develop the Heat Resistance ability at the beginning. On the other side a good idea should be to transmit the plague by Insects if your starting country is for example Brazil. In order to win you need to research.

There are many kinds of symptoms. Don’t start to research all of them – it’s useless and it will cost a lot. Choose 2 that look like they could synergize (for example Stomach and Lungs for Bacteria).

Watch the News. From time to time there can be special events like Rats Infestation or Birds Migration that can help the transmission of your plague if you have DNA points spent accordingly.

If you unlock the full game always remember that every type of Plague is unique and may not work the same way other Plague works. Don’t expect that the strategy you have for Virus will make wonders when you play with a Fungus plague. Research is the key.

When you almost beat the game (all population is infected for example) it would be a good idea to start devolving your Transmissions or some useless symptoms in order to have more DNA points to slow down the cure.

In-Depth Plague Inc Review

Probably like every person who stumbled on Plague Inc while searching for another game I was very intrigued – ‘I didn’t play a game like this before, I should try it’. While it downloaded I read the description and watch some screenshots and I taught that Plague Inc looks like an old Nintendo game called Dr Mario but with a little difference – I don’t have to cure the world, I have to destroy it – and my psychopath senses tingled.

I was impressed by the quality and the complexity of this game because in order to succeed you must find the perfect formula for balancing the 3 traits: Transmission, Symptoms and Abilities. You can’t rule out one of them and hope for the best because it will not happen. The developer taught thoroughly every aspect of the game starting with plague’s construction and ending with the reaction of the countries. You will see that rich and resourceful regions will react first to the plague and will start a cure or that annoying New Zealanders will close all of their borders – just in case (I am joking, they are not annoying, I love them but not in this game) or the fact that the Plague will spread faster in poor countries if I researched the “Spread by Blood” perk. Even it sounds very creepy to say it out loud I will do it – Plague Inc looks like a accurate real-life simulation in case of a Plague.

What I don’t like about Plague Inc is the fact that from time to time you just wait at the screen and wait for something to happen (after I unlocked the full game this problem disappeared) and that the random events are too random – in one run I can have 3 special events while in another none. One other thing I found disturbing is the presence of real plagues statistics in-gam – Congratulations your plague is worse than the Black Death – should I be happy about this or…? As long as you are open minded you will be fine, don’t worry.

Ratings

Artwork: I give Plague Inc 8 out of 10 for its artwork. There is not much to say about this game in this section due to fact that it lacks artwork. All you have is the World Map, a few bubbles with their Legend, small white planes and boats and the color red which represents the destruction and they are done right. This game is entirely not about the artwork so I am guessing that giving it a lower or higher rating will not be fair. It is hard to rate a game’s design when it does not require any.

Music & SFX: The game gets 8 out of 10 for its sounds. Being a simple game in terms of the artwork I did not except such good sound effects. The music is not too loud or too complex but it is in the background and it is very creepy. The sound effects looks like they were inspired from a psychological-horror movie – they are simple but they give you the chills which I think is great. The developers even made a Music Pack that contains 9 songs present in the game or the mods of the game – not to many mobile games can brag with this.

Story/Originality: 10/10. Plague Inc is the first of its kind and it is pretty awesome. The story is dark and cruel but the game is 100% original and you can’t deny that whether you are a fan or you are shocked by the game. The developers did a great job and it’s for the first time in history of mobile games where your job is to actually destroy the world because you are a bacteria. Marvelous idea delivered impeccably – I would tip off my hat if I had one.

General Gameplay: 10 out of 10 for Plague Inc, no questions allowed. The gameplay is intuitive and very easy to understand. In Plague Inc you think more than actually play – you must think and develop the perfect disease while you click on bubbles from time to time. It is a game of waiting and the waiting is worth it – the complexity of the way the diseases spreads or mutate amazes me. The developer did a lot of research background before launched the game and did a wonderful job. There is a “How to Play” option for the beginners and the game will help you when you encounter new or out of the ordinary things during your session. If you are bored of the default run you can always access the Scenario section where you are able to play different real-life scenarios or themed events (for example brining the joy back for Christmas). You will not encounter any bugs or freezes and it runs smoothly.

Addictiveness: 8 out of 10. Plague Inc has a lot of potential and from what I heard it is going to be ported to PC which only means that it is a popular game and very well-received by players everywhere. However the fact that its free version has so little to offer is hurting a bit the addictiveness. If you don’t want to invest money in the game all you can do is play the same run with the default plague and maybe taking different approaches regarding the way the plague spreads or its symptoms – unfortunately you can do this very quickly if you are lucky or you understood the mechanics. The players that are willing to pay for the full version of the game (which is not very expensive to be honest) will have an amazing experience with the game because it is very complex and its repeatability has potential – after you finish the game with the Bacteria type you will unlock the Virus and this process will continue with the other 5 types of Plagues (Fungus, Parasite, Prion, Nano-Virus, Bio-Weapon).

Overall I give Plague Inc 8.5 out of 10. It is the living proof that games are not all about graphics.
