I am very amazed in how the developers were able to implement the Minecraft graphics into a shooter game, and it pleases me that there are still developers out there that try to create their own game concepts and mechanics. The graphics are very nice and refreshing and I like the fact that there are different kinds of game modes in the game. This allows players to play in the game mode that they prefer and you can choose if you want to play single player or multiplayer. It is very nice to see that there are a ton of levels, and each of them have a different level design, making the game feel very original.
In my opinion, Pixel Gun 3D is very well designed and optimized game. Even though the game has a lot of positive aspects, it unfortunately also has a few negative aspects. For starters, a lot of items in the in-game shop are only purchasable with premium gems or a lot of gold coins. Of course, you can grind for gold coins by playing levels over and over again, but obtaining premium gems for free is almost impossible. This means that you will have to spend a lot of money to purchase gems, in order to be able to purchase a lot of the items in the in-game store.
I do not mind when developers of free-to-play games try to generate an income for themselves, because they need to be rewarded for their efforts. The only problem is that not all players can afford to spend money on a mobile game, which means that they have a real disadvantage over players who can afford to spend money on Pixel Gun 3D. I believe that developers should implement systems that will reward loyal players, allowing them to earn free premium gems and have a chance against other players.
The second negative aspect about Pixel Gun 3D, which I experienced during my gameplay, is the fact that playing in any online game mode can be pretty difficult. This is due to the fact that you will need a very good internet connection on your phone, if you want to be lag-free and have a chance against other players/zombies. I ended up getting blasted away because I couldn’t even see the enemy moving in towards me. I have a very good Wi-Fi connection and a 4G connection if I am not connected to my Wi-Fi, but I still experienced a lot of lag spikes. Of course, this could mean that my device cannot handle Pixel Gun 3D and others may not experience the lag spikes that I was experiencing, so I am going to cut the developers of Pixel Gun 3D some slack.
Artwork: I give Pixel Gun 3D an 8/10 for its artwork. Everyone who enjoys playing Minecraft, will surely enjoy the graphics of Pixel Gun 3D. This game features fantastic pixelated block graphics, which is very familiar to the graphics of Minecraft. I am very amazed by the fact that mobile devices can handle such graphics and it pleases me to see that there are still developers out there that are creative and spend a lot of time on the graphics of their games. I really like the fact that there are many animations in Pixel Gun 3D, such as when you shoot zombies, when you use explosives and even when you dress up your character with armor and weapons. The developers did a very good job combining both the graphics and animations together, making them fit perfectly together and allow the game to work smoothly.
Music & SFX: I give Pixel Gun 3D an 8/10 for its music and SFX. There are a few soundtracks and many sound effects in Pixel Gun 3D, making the game sound very alive and pleasant. The soundtracks and sound effects are easy on the ears, which means that it is unlikely that players will get bored or bothered by playing Pixel Gun 3D. I like the fact that the developers where able to make the soundtracks and SFX fit very well together.
Story & Originality: I give Pixel Gun 3D an 8/10 for its story and originality. Pixel Gun 3D is a mix between a few games such as Minecraft, and you can tell by its graphics. This makes the game not as original as I would have liked it to be, but it is still very entertaining to play. This is due to the fact that the developers have obviously spend a lot of time on the different features, levels and items in the game. This shows that the developers have used their own creativity and did not just copy and paste game ideas and mechanics from other games. There is no story behind the game, so players are left to imagine one for themselves. Luckily, a game such as Pixel Gun 3D does not need a story, because what is more fun than taking down zombies with a bunch of different guns and explosives.
General Gameplay: I give Pixel Gun 3D an 8/10 for general gameplay. The gameplay in Pixel Gun 3D starts off with a small tutorial, showing you how to use the two-thumb controls and how to generally play the game. You will learn how to use your guns, gear and how to take down zombies. After the tutorial ends, the gameplay becomes pretty straightforward, but thankfully there are a lot of game features and levels which you can explore. The controls are easy to learn and are very responsive. The user interface fits the Minecraft theme, which is set in the game.
Addictiveness: I give Pixel Gun 3D an 8/10 for addictiveness. I really like the fact that the developers did not implement any kind of limitations on the playtime for players. Pixel Gun 3D does not have any lives, timers or any other kind of silly limitations, which are a huge turn off from any kind of game, in my opinion. There are several different game modes, both single player and multiplayer, which can be really addictive if you enjoy action packed games such as Pixel Gun 3D. There are many items and specialties, which you can purchase in the in-game shop, making the game even more addictive. There are several worlds and a ton of levels in Pixel Gun 3D, allowing you to have a lot of playtime in the game.
All things considered, I give Pixel Gun 3D an 8/10.
