Need for Drift Most Wanted Review

Need for Drift Most Wanted is one of the many racing games currently available on the market. Because of this reason, I decided to try it being pretty circumspect. And I was right because the game is not that great. It has its strong features, I admit, but it lacks one important thing and that’s the real authenticity.

It is hard to think about stuff I particularly like about Need for Drift Most Wanted but I will give it a try for the sake of this review. First of all I like to point out the fact that the game has a lot of content. It may get boring at some point but you just really can’t say you finished Need for Drift Most Wanted in a few hours. There are a lot of missions, a lot of challenges and to complete them it will take you a fair amount of time. It is good that a racing game is like this because it lets you discover different cars and ideas. Secondly, I like that the design of the cars is very similar to real models (even though they use random weird names because of license issues). It gives the game a vague sense of realism (but at the same time it makes it even more unauthentic). Lastly, I find it interesting in a good way the fact that the game is entirely oriented on drifts. It may not be such a great idea but I like the commitment of the developers around this race mode.  

On the other hand, there are more than a few things I don’t like about the game. Best example that comes in my mind is that I hate the name of the game. It is a trivial copy of the very popular PC game called Need for Speed: Most Wanted. I don’t think that there is a person, gamer of not, who have not heard before of the NFS franchise and to just copy it and alter a bit so it’s not exactly the same is disappointing. If your game is good, you don’t have to use this kind of stuff. Another thing I despise (I mentioned it before and I will mention it again) is the way the developers decided to make Need for Drift Most Wanted “free”. You pay $9.99 or you download and play another game of their choice if you want to play their title. That’s a bad marketing move from them and I really think it should be mentioned before you install the game.

In terms of gameplay, I don’t like the fact that because of a mobile device limitation, the cars doesn’t act like it’s supposed to do. I know that drifting is barely about control but when I tilt left, the car should steer in that direction no matter what. Also, I don’t like all the spamming with real money upgrades for the car that pop-up every time I finish a race. I know where the Shop is if I want to make a purchase, no need for help here.

Overall, Need for Drift Most Wanted is a game I would not further recommend and mainly because of its name. If you can get pass that, feel free to download and play it, you might like the way it acts.

Artwork: Need for Drift Most Wanted gets a rating of 8 out of 10 for its artwork. The theme is interesting and it suggests a more illegal street racing approach which is always popular amongst players. The cars are detailed and they are rendered nicely. The environment is a bit dull and it feels outdated but because of several tricks the developers smartly used, you need to pay really close attention to see the flaws. The animation effects are not one of the game’s strong features but overall they are above average. The visual graphics of Need for Drift Most Wanted are surprisingly good.

Music & SFX: I give the game a rating of 8 out of 10 for this segment. It is possibly to be a bit subjective here but I can’t help it. Need for Drift Most Wanted has a nice soundtrack with several different songs but most of them doesn’t feel suited for the theme in my opinion. However, the fact that I finally get to review a game with more than one song works for me and my personal taste doesn’t matter. The sound effects are also pretty good and even though they don’t are the best in the world, you can’t complain too much about them.

Story/Originality: Need for Drift Most Wanted gets a rating of 5 out of 10 at this section. As I mentioned before, the fact that they use a slightly altered title of a more successful game is awful. I just can’t stand this no matter how good the game might be (unfortunately it isn’t even average). The game doesn’t have a story whatsoever and because of the title it doesn’t have any authenticity. There are a few elements that make the game different from other titles but it’s not good enough. It requires a lot more changes (starting with the name of the game) to give Need for Drift Most Wanted a higher rating.  

General Gameplay: I give the game a rating of 7 out of 10 for its gameplay. The game doesn’t require a tutorial because it is a drift-racing title but some hints and help buttons for the menus would have been nice. Some of the players may be new in this “racing domain”. Drifting has always been a hard feature to implement on mobile devices because it requires a lot of control and a very responsive device. Unfortunately, Need for Drift Most Wanted fails to achieve perfection in the gameplay. The game is better than the majority but there is still a mountain to climb until you can say you can easily play drift racing games on a mobile device. For the time I’ve played I’ve encountered several freezes and some small bugs but nothing major.

Addictiveness: Need for Drift Most Wanted gets a rating of 7 out of 10 at this section. The only problem this game have is the developers’ idea of monetizing the game because the players are required to pay a big load of money or to endure a lot of ads and spamming ( I mentioned before about this). Other than that, Need for Drift Most Wanted has a lot of missions for the user to play, more than a few interesting cars available and a decent amount of social media interaction. Also, you can upgrade a lot of stuff for your car and the free resource required (cash) is not that hard to achieve if you regularly play the game.

Overall, Need for Drift Most Wanted gets a rating of 7 out of 10. The game has some strong features and if the developers are smart, their game can become pretty popular. Only time will see.
