Farms and Castles is a grid puzzle game that is 6 by 6 squares. This means the grid layout in Farms and Castles is much larger than any other games that we have previously seen or played, for example, in Candy Crush. The second different thing is that in Farms and Castles we do not swap or make out own switches in the game. Instead, the game gives us each time two different items, either rocks, grass, or etc. This layout is similar to King’s game, Bubble Witch Saga, where they give you different bubbles to match up each time.

The difference in Farms and Castles is that you only have a limited amount of space to place each given item on the grid. You do not have to worry about matching them, because the game will automatically match them for you. You can match them horizontally, vertically, an even in a small L shape! Once you match the small pebbles up, they turn into rocks and when you match enough big grass up, you get a farm which in every turn and or move you make, it will give you harvest. In order to win each stage in Farms and Castles, you would want to plan and play each move very strategically. There are no redo and when the Grim Reaper gets you, you will have to restart from the very beginning.

When I first discovered Farms and Castles, I wasn’t sure if it would be my cup of tea or not. But after reading the reviews, I started getting a bit skeptical because, hey, truth to be told, the game screenshots from the game didn’t look that hard or challenging! Unfortunately, within 10 minutes of playing the first level, I got the Grim Reaper game over message. Farms and Castles is a challenging and strategic game in disguise of a simple and laid back atmosphere.

In Farms and Castles, the graphics are high quality and they all fit with the game’s setting and time era. In Farms and Castles, we are playing as a lowly knight who wants to rise to the top. Now if I remember correctly from my history classes, a knight can only be given a land by a King or buy it with his own money. In the land, they can have serfs and the serfs can live on the land. In order to rise into the ranks to become a King, he would have to have a lot of harvest, land, houses, and serfs. This game brought back all the things I’ve learned, and I was pleasantly surprised that Farms and Castles delivered an accurate amount of what I have learned.

I really like how Farms and Castles is a game mash between two of King’s most popular games, Candy Crush Saga and Bubble Witch Saga. I enjoyed seeing how I solved the puzzle aspect of this game, while also experiencing a nice twist of the farming game. Normally in farming games, you would have to do it by yourself and you have to wait, but in Farms and Castles, you do not have to do either, which is amazing.

If you are ever in need of a help, in Farms and Castles you can use the magic orbs to help you. Whenever you invite your friend and you play this game, you both can exchange magic orbs and it will benefit both parties! On the game setting menu, you can also choose to display the grid or not. For me, displaying the grid was the best way for me to see everything on the screen. Sometimes when placing a rock or a bush, it would go back to the selecting section because it went in between two grids. With the grid lines present, I can clearly see where everything is and where I can place them. I also like the option of being able to connect to Facebook or not.

Even without connecting to Facebook, you won’t lose your game data, but of course, if you switch devices you might have to restart your current progress in Farms and Castles. When you are checking the rankings against your other friends, you get to see how well you are playing and what you need to do to beat them and get number one! The design menu of this game was also very simple to use. You know exactly what you are doing and where each button are at. The settings menu is easy to access and if you want to turn off the sounds, you can easily do so.

I feel that majority of the people who have not picked up Farms and Castles, is because of the simplicity of the game screenshots shown in the mobile game markets. In reality, this game is really worth playing and if people gave it a chance, it would become even more popular than Candy Crush Saga, Temple Run, and or even Flappy Birds. With the high quality graphics, great time era background music, and the strategic strengths required to solve each stage and level, Farms and Castles is definitely worth picking up.

The artwork may give people the wrong impression, that it is a simple and not challenging game, but when given the chance, the great graphics along with the gameplay makes an amazing team together.   

Music & SFX: The music and SFX section for Farms and Castles receives the overall rating of 10/10. I really enjoyed listening to the background music and the sound effects. Since this game, Farms and Castles, takes place in medieval times, the music and the background music all fits together quite nicely. It takes you back into the old history days, and with the game characters, everything looks like it just came out from the book “King Arthur’s and the Knights of the Round Table!”

Story & Originality: The story and originality for Farms and Castles receives the final rating of 10/10. I like how they had multiple different game genres in this game: farming, puzzle, leveling up and conquering. They all fit together with one another and did not take the main focus away from one another. The originality in this game was also never seen before. It was really unique to be playing as a knight to rise to the ranks of a King.

General Gameplay: The general gameplay for Farms and Castles receives the highest rating of 10/10. There was no bugs or glitches that was made known to me when I was playing this game. Therefore I believe this game was very pleasant and easy to play! From other user reviews on both Google Play store and iTunes, no users have reported any bugs or glitches either!

Addictiveness: The addictiveness factor for Farms and Castles, receives the final rating of 10/10. I really like all the elements of this game along with the sounds and the high quality artwork, it made everything a whole and it is a really nice game to spend hours to level up.
