Talking Tom Jetski is the newest game by Outfit7, one of the most popular developers out there. They are behind one of mobile gaming’s biggest successes, the kid friendly Talking XY animals series. These titles include Talking Tom Cat, Talking Angela, Talking Ginger and Talking Ben the Dog, among countless other installments.
Talking Tom Jetski has already reached a 4.2/5 stars rating on the Google Play Store, while having 4/5 stars on the Apple App Store shortly after release. In its first weeks, the game already has over a million downloads, and a fairly positive reception. Outfit7 has proven multiple times now that they know how to make these games, so let’s play and see how a jetski changes the formula!
Straying away from the well tested waters of the Talking XY type of games, the developer has put their favorite characters into an entirely new situation in Talking Tom Jetski. Instead of giving the option to the players to talk with Tom and Angela, they get to play an endless runner game with them, using jetskis. You might be surprised at first, but they indeed just did that! Still, how does it work though?
In the main menu of the game, you are presented the two familiar cats, and you get choose between them. You either pick Tom or Angela, but the outcome is the same: one of them will ride the waves! As the game starts, you get to control the jetski by simply swiping your fingers left and right on the screen. Your goal from then on is to gather as many stars in the water as possible, while avoiding all obstacles that cross your way.
Obstacles in Talking Tom Jetski are not always deadly, as small objects like rubber ducks, bananas, watermelons, beach balls and boxes can be smashed by riding through them. Other objects, such as half-sunken pirate ships, boats, rocks and spinning barriers will destroy the jetski though, and end the current run. Luckily, you get the option to continue after crashing three times per run, all you have to do is watch an optional ad after each crash.
The game also has powerups, which are always welcome in endless runners, as they definitely make games more exciting. Here you have the Speed up, Speed down and the Invincibility powerups. Speed up and down does exactly as you would guess, while Invincibility lets you move through and destroy any object without crashing your jetski.
Gathering stars to get a highscore is not even your only goal, as you have three missions at any given time, which if you complete will add permanent score multipliers to the game. These missions can be easy like “Hit 2 ducks” or “Ride 3 ramps over rocks”, but it can also be tricky, such as “Side bump 2 big red buoys”. Completing all three will immediately add the score multiplier to your game, and also give you three new missions to work towards.
Talking Tom Jetski also has a leaderboard feature, accessed by linking your game to Google Play in case of Android, or Game Center in case of iOS. You can then challenge your friends’ scores and check the global leaderboards to see the top players at the moment.
The game also shows an ad after every second failed level, but these can be easily quit out of and don’t take up much game time.

Ah, Talking Tom, we meet yet again! I don’t really mind Tom, even though he is definitely meant more for a younger audience, but when I heard that Outfit7’s new game was an endless runner, I had to give Talking Tom Jetski a go, as I do love the genre!
After a pretty straightforward start, and being able to choose between Tom and Angela, I started my first jetski run. It was almost immediately apparent that the game’s controls are spot on, and are as responsible as it can get. This is a really important thing for games like this, where obstacles have to be avoided, often at precision. With this in mind, I completed my first run with joy, while listening to the light tunes of the game.
I can’t really remember how many runs I ended up playing in the end, before deciding to write the review, but this game’s well designed map, powerup system and the missions got me hooked on it, that’s for sure. I love powerups in all games, so that was a set thing, but the missions also turned out to be something that really helps the longevity of the game. Thanks to the fact that they give out permanent score multipliers, the race for highscores is clearly set as well.
My only wish for the game would be for more things to do in the end, when you have played so many runs that you crave some long-lasting goals. Such as level and skin unlocks, the option to play with friends or challenge them directly, instead of having to look up their scores. Other than that, Talking Tom Jetski is a game that will definitely get anyone hooked, in all age groups!

Artwork: The artwork of Talking Tom Jetski gets a 9/10. With a sunny and vibrant artstyle, the game warms any player’s heart, even if they disliked Tom or Angela beforehand. The game radiates a happy beach atmosphere, and it’s almost certain to get your kids addicted just by its visuals!
Music & SFX: I give the music and SFX of this game an 8/10. The cheerful and lively songs in the menu and during jetski runs are always fun to listen to, even after spending a long time in the game. The SFX are on spot as well, with the object crashes and background beach sounds.
Story & Originality: The story and originality gets a 7/10. You can’t really find much a story in here, other than the fact that Tom and Angela decided to go jetskiing. That said, the joyful and kids friends presentation of this game definitely deserves a 7, even though its not the most unique game in the endless runner genre.
General Gameplay: As for the general gameplay of Talking Tom Jetski, it deserves an 8/10. It’s hard to poke the game from any side, really, as it has almost everything covered. Solid gameplay mechanics, responsive controls and the easy to pickup gameplay are all here. Probably the only thing that could be improved would be more long-term goals, such as new level and skin unlocks, or just anything to work towards, other than the highscores.
Addictiveness: I give the addictiveness of the game an 9/10 as well. If your kids already know about Talking Tom or Angela, and if you don’t want them to ever put down your phone again, then show this game to them. This is a truly addicting gem, with its simple controls and gameplay, it can easily entertain any adult or child for a long time.
Overall Score: 8/10.
