Both the company and Dong are based out of Vietnam. Some of the other games that was created by him and his company include Smashing Kitty, Dr. Plet Shuffle, Shuriken Block and Ninjas Assault. 2. Flappy Bird Racked Up $50,000 Per Day in Ad Revenue

Flappy Bird turned into a runaway hit that was reported to be making $50,000 PER DAY in advertisement revenue. Since its initial release from eight months ago (May 2013), the game has been downloaded more than 50-million times and has been rated over 90,000 times. The game’s popularity even eclipsed popular apps such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Skype, Twitter, Instagram and other mobile games.

3. He Announced Via His Twitter That He Was Taking the Game Down From Mobile Devices

On February 8, 2014, Doug posted the following tweet above and announced that he was taking down Flappy Bird from the mobile devices it was previously available on, unable to deal with the intense scrutiny and criticism the game’s success brought upon him.

The following tweets you’ll see below offered more information as to why Dong decided to get rid of his biggest mobile game to date:

In an interview with Forbes, Nguyen went on to say that he took down the game due to it becoming too addictive. He also alluded to the fact that his personal life had become disturbed by the game itself:

Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed. But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever. My life has not been as comfortable as I was before. I couldn’t sleep.


4. He Received Death Threats

Soon after the game was taken down from mobile app stores, plenty of disgusting tweets aimed at Dong Nguyen started to become public. Some of these tweets even threatened bodily harm at Dong for taking down Flappy Bird. The Independent collected a few of the damaging tweets aimed in the direction of Dong Nguyen:

5. A Fake Story About His Suicide Came Out After The Game’s Removal

A Fake hoax story sorrounding the supposed suicide of Dong Nguyen soon made the round all over the web after Flappy Bird was taken down. This false news story reported that Dong was found dead in his home due to a gunshot wound to his head. Of course, it was proven that this story was indeed anything but true. The tweet above refers to that fake news story.
