The creator of the recent mobile gaming craze Flappy Bird has been through a crazy roller coaster struggle. Dong Nguyen, an independent video game developer hailing from Hanoi, Vietnam, has been through a lot, which led to the his massive mobile game being taken off the iOS App Store and the Android Google Play store.

Dong Nguyen works an independent video game developer for a company called .Gears, which specializes in developing arcade games for smartphone and tablet devices. Both the company and Dong are based out of Vietnam. Some of the other games that was created by him and his company include Smashing Kitty, Dr. Plet Shuffle, Shuriken Block and Ninjas Assault. The hit game that brought some relevancy to Dong and his company was the hit mobile craze known as Flappy Bird, a supremely difficult game that garnered tons of downloads and the top spot on the iOS Apps Store and Android Google Play store.

On February 8, 2014, Doug posted the following tweet above and announced that he was taking down Flappy Bird from the mobile devices it was previously available on, unable to deal with the intense scrutiny and criticism the game’s success brought upon him.

In an interview with Forbes, Nguyen went on to say that he took down the game due to it becoming too addictive. He also alluded to the fact that his personal life had become disturbed by the game itself:
Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed. But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever. My life has not been as comfortable as I was before. I couldn’t sleep.
Soon after the game was taken down from mobile app stores, plenty of disgusting tweets aimed at Dong Nguyen started to become public. Some of these tweets even threatened bodily harm at Dong for taking down Flappy Bird. The Independent collected a few of the damaging tweets aimed in the direction of Dong Nguyen:
– YOU BEST NOT BE DELETING FLAPPY BIRD BECAUSE I WILL MURDER YOU IF U DO.
– If you delete flappy bird I will literally kill myself. It’s my drug and I am so addicted!! PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO MEEE PLEASEE. I’ll find you and i’ll kill you.
– i’m gonna kill you that game is a part of my life know.

A Fake hoax story sorrounding the supposed suicide of Dong Nguyen soon made the round all over the web after Flappy Bird was taken down. This false news story reported that Dong was found dead in his home due to a gunshot wound to his head. Of course, it was proven that this story was indeed anything but true. The tweet above refers to that fake news story.
