How to rise through the ranks in League of Heroes - hints, tips, and tricks

Playing League of Heroes? Having trouble rising up the ranks? Constantly running up against bad guys you just can't seem to beat? Need more money to buy items, and fast?

Well, have I got a guide for you!

This one, in fact.

Welcome, adventurer. Pull up a pew, for I am about to show you how to master League of Heroes. For free.

Dish out the damage

Let's start off with combat - it's a pretty important component of League of Heroes, after all.

There are plenty of little tricks you can pull off to give you the advantage in a scrap. The first thing you'll need to do is learn how to effectively control crowds of enemies, for once you're surrounded, you're in trouble.

With the vast majority of weapons, your first two strikes (out of three) will be wide swipes, and the last will be an overhead smash. If you've got more than one enemy, avoid using this third attack, as it'll likely miss any opponent you're not directly facing.

You can exploit the game's environment and systems to give yourself an edge, too. Whenever you spy a group of stationary goblins, for example, sidle up to them slowly. This may result in one spotting you, but that's grand. It will allow you to retreat and take the lone goblin out while it's on its lonesome.

Walls and rivers also come in handy, for your attacks can reach over them. All the while, your soon-to-be-vanquished foes futz around just trying to reach you. They don't like water and they can't walk through solid objects - use these facts to your advantage.

A final word on fighting: hitting most enemies will interrupt their attack animation. This quirk isn't applicable to bosses, mind. Stay aggressive in the main, though, and you'll be fine.

Get the most from your adventure

The game uses a very miserly energy system to restrict access to its content. Because of this, you will want to be as efficient as possible when playing.

There are some very basic things you can do to become Mr Efficient.

The first is to scour each map for every coin-filled pot and every treasure-laden chest. Be fastidious, and don't exit a level just because you've beaten each monster - there may well be extra goodies hidden away.

The next is to pick up every last coin and bit of experience from your vanquished opponents. It may be a bit tedious, but it'll pay dividends in the long run.

Make sure, too, that you've purchased and consumed some of the potions available in the hub world. EXP, Greed, Speed, Monster, and Health Potions are available, and each gives you two hours of a specific bonus.

EXP and Greed are the ones to roll with, as they give you additional money and experience each time you collect them in battle. Use them at the beginning of a session, though, else you'll have wasted your money. Since it takes around an hour to regenerate all your Energy, you can get a fair amount of use out of them if you're smart.

Lessons learnt

- All too often, you'll be out on adventures and (potentially) fulfilling requirements for challenges that are set for you. Make sure, then, that you check in with the taskmaster on the left-hand side of the village every quest or two to monitor the status of your open challenges and collect your reward.

- Don't buy items as soon as you're offered them. The lady mocking you for having rubbish armour may tempt you to, but it's really not worth it for incremental improvements. Conserve your money until you really can't progress any further - only then should you upgrade.

- Lastly, the greatest advice I can give you. Do not under any any circumstances run around a brand-new level willy-nilly. You'll trigger too many monsters, who will pursue you relentlessly, eventually chipping away your health until you die. Be cautious, be smart, be savvy, brave adventurer.
