Game of Thrones Ascent

Last month, we saw the release of Game of Thrones Ascent on Android devices. The game was already out on Facebook for a while now, so it had a long opportunity to build a recurring player base. Hence, its release on mobile devices was a very welcome move by developers, Disruptor Beam, as current Facebook can enjoy the game on the go, and they gain a new audience in the form of mobile gamers. It was a win-win situation for them.

If, like me, you have been playing the game since the Facebook days, you would be very familiar with the game by now. However, if you are new to the game and lost as to what to do, I hope this guide will help you on your way to the throne. Don’t be discouraged, after all, Valar Morghulis. Pay your enemies back with whatever you have, like the Lannisters, and prepare for the day you have to defend the Seven Kingdoms from the White Walkers because Winter is Coming. Ok, I admit, those are fickle attempts at incorporating as many GoT catchphrases as  I can. At least I tried, right?

More gold!

I’ll start off with an easy one. Just log in everyday and you get a nice hefty bonus to your gold on the seventh day! It doesn’t take too long to do it, while you’re waiting in line, or in the bathroom, or driving to work.

Regardless, gold is pretty rare and as such should be treated like a rare commodity, especially early on. Try to resist the urge to buy weapons with gold and keep it for the premium stuff like upgrades for buildings.

Maximize your time

As with any free-to-play games, there are timers everywhere! Make sure to keep upgrading your buildings or crafting items and resources so that you can use later on. You can never have too much of anything in hand because you’ll never know when you need them. If you will be away from your device, you can also send your sword swords to perform quests and earn you some valuable coins and items.

If you find that everything is taking too long, you can use freshly-baked bread and mead to speed up the progress.  Timers get progressively longer as you play, so this might just be what you need to get through them without tearing your hair out.

Sworn swords

In Ascent, you have the ability to hire sworn swords to do your bidding and help you with quests. Needless to say, hire a healthy amount of them so that you can constantly have someone doing something and earning you silver. Sworn swords also come in handy when there is a quest that requires more than one person.

Try to also hire good sworn swords types. They can be distinguished by the colour of their names. Typically, try to go for at least a green and blue sworn swords – greys are just not worth it unless you’re desperate. Having good sworn swords increases your chances of winning in battle. For more information on the type of sworn swords, check out the wiki here.

Prioritize your own character

That being said, keep the best items for yourself. It’s absolutely okay to be selfish here! Your sworn swords are just hires that you should NOT entrust with your greatest weapons and armor. In true Game of Thrones mindset, you never know when they might stab you in the back. I jest, but seriously, the armor and weapon you equip on yourself increases the overall stats not only for your character, but also for ALL sworn swords. So yea, you definitely want to be equipping the best.

I hope this guide has helped you along the way. Keep fighting for what you stand for in this game and remember to always check your back. Littlefinger or Cersei might be right behind you ready to pounce at any point of weakness you display. Here, I leave you with one of my favourite quotes from one of my favourite characters from GoT:

“Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.”
