Daddy Was A Thief Tips and Tricks

For the past few weeks, I have been having a lot of fun with Daddy Was a Thief. I know it’s not a new game by any means, but it’s a game my girlfriend and I both enjoy, so I am sure that you will too. However, if you find yourself stuck and unable to beat your previous record, perhaps I can shed some light on some tips and tricks to get you one step further… down.

Some of these tips and tricks will be generic, but sometimes, when you’re lost in the moment, you forget them and just plow through like a steamroller. And that is a surefire way to get yourself in the crosshair of a policeman or in front of the laser remote control guy.

Look before you leap!

Let’s start of with something terribly obvious. At some point during your play, you will find yourself tuning out and just swiping down without even looking at what is hiding in the next floor. Well don’t do that! When you find yourself bored, tell yourself that that is the most important time to start concentrating! As you get further down, the levels get more and more dangerous with more things that could kill you. So it is important to keep an eye out for what is below.

Take a bath!

Another obvious fact that you may have noticed on your own is how awesome jumping into the bathtub is, both in real life and in the game. In real life, it is a good time to relax and unwind and reflect on the complexities of life. In the game though, it provides a nice boost down a number of floors so that you can rest your swiping finger for a few seconds and avoid all the dangers along the way.

However, you might want to be careful coming out of the tub. In real life, coming out of the tub will be slippery, so make sure you put a rubber mat on the floor. In the game, I have noticed often that there will be a police on the floor you land or on the floor directly below. So watch out!

Break safes and fridges

If you find yourself broke because you spent too much on a few power-ups, try breaking the safes that you find along the way. Yes, they can be broken into. You need to pound on it really hard, or make it drop at least one floor down, and it will open to a nice amount of coins.

Also noteworthy is when you smash fridges in the process, it will provide you with a ice-shield for an amount of time. Very useful to grant temporary immunity through dangerous levels.

Buy upgrades

Now that you have broken the safes and gotten a lot of money, don’t bother trying to save up all the coins. Buy upgrades that will help you get further and further down. I do NOT recommend wasting your money on a single-use power-up. Instead, buy permanent stuff that will help in every playthrough.

Mini-me

At certain levels there will be a shrinking machine that will zap you and shrink you into a tiny little man. When that happens, don’t panic! Don’t waste your time jumping everywhere trying to get through. Instead, try to focus your jumping at one location. Personally, I like to do it at one of the two corners because it is easier to bounce to the same place.

If you see a police at the next floor, I would personally recommend waiting it out until you have regained your full size because trying to avoid the police and jump to the next level is a pain in the back. Also be careful of the missiles coming from the side. They are particularly dangerous when you’re shrunk and aimed at the floor.

There you go, I hope you get some useful tips and tricks from this article. If just one of the advice above gave you a lightbulb moment, or made you go “Hah, I didn’t think of that!”, then I consider this write-up a success. If you don’t have it yet, you can download it from the Google Play Store here.

Cheers!
