Fallout Shelter Tips and Tricks

Fallout Shelter has just been released on Android devices so I am sure you guys are all over it by now. Personally, I have been unable to leave the house because I am too busy making sure the guy I sent out into the wasteland does not die! Well, I am also trying to make two unlikely people flirt and have a baby, but since both of them have the charisma of a dog, it is taking a long while to play cupid.

Anyway, if you find yourself stuck, have questions or unable to accomplish a certain task, perhaps this guide will help you. These are just some of the basic tips and tricks to get you started.

Think like a leader

Obviously, you are the leader of this group of refugees, and good leaders know their people well. If you click on a person, you can see their mood, what they like, what they don’t like, their specialty, and their inventory. Choosing the right job for each person in the vault will not only benefit the person, but the entire community. Each job requires a certain trait so match that trait with whoever is good at it and you will have a very productive crew.

  • Strength: power plant
  • Perception: water treatment plants
  • Endurance: exploration, or Nuka Cola production.
  • Charisma: radio station, baby making
  • Intelligence: medical bay or science laboratory
  • Agility: diner
  • Luck: better ‘rush’ chances, and also gives you better items while out in the wasteland

Training

Like a good leader, you have to help your people grow. In this game, it means sending people to training and increasing their specialty traits. As mentioned, the higher their trait, the more productive they are drastically reducing the time it takes to complete a task.

Training rooms are also good to encourage people to diversify. If you find you have too many strong guys, perhaps send some for agility or perception training so that they can serve in other areas of the vault.

Plan your rooms

As overlord of the vault, you also act as chief architect. Every time you want to build a new room, you have to manually move them to an available location. Placing two of the same type of room next to each other will merge the rooms, allowing you to place more workers there and thus up your production. However, it will also up the time it takes, so make sure you have enough people before combining.

In relation to that, upgrading rooms is also a good direct way to increase productivity. Remember that you can only upgrade each room up to level 3, and you can only combine rooms of the same level!

Keep everyone alive

Well, this one goes without saying, but you wouldn’t want your people to die. That means making sure each of them are healthy, armed, and keep a steady supply of stimpack. The most important thing is to make sure NO ONE has radiation, because radiation spreads fast and kills!

The number 2 killer is probably raiders. They can be deadly if you are not prepared, so make sure every single one of your people is armed and ready to rumble.

Also, don’t send someone out into the wasteland and forget about them. They can die out there if you don’t recall them. Just keep an eye on them.

Population control

Lastly, try to grow your station steadily, but not rapidly. You can either make babies by putting two unrelated people together in the room, or building a radio station to get people to come. The higher their charisma the faster they make babies or recruit new people.

However, make sure you don’t have too many people in your vault too fast when you’re not ready, or you will seriously get overwhelmed. When your population grows, the needs of the people do too. So steadily build more power generators, water supply rooms, diners to ensure they are all happy.
