Viva Pinata Game Guide & Walkthrough

Welcome to the unofficial guide to Viva Pinata. It is made for those, who after a short stay on the lovely island inhabited by animals filled with candies discovered, that taking care of them is not that easy as it seems. In order to lure to your garden new creatures and - which is far more difficult - make them want to romance, you need to know their demands and fill them out precisely.

That's why the main part of this guide is the list of all pinatas with precise information on what requirements should be filled in order to make specific animal come along, visit our garden, inhabit it and, last but not least, want to reproduce.

Not all the species live at large. Some of them might be bought in a shop. There are also few special ones, which could be gained only by executing a sequence of specific actions. Besides on the list you'll find the sour pinatas, which could be tamed and taken up. Furthermore we've tried to complete the information by conditions to achieve a different color variants of pinatas and notes about natural enemies of particular species, which is especially important when planning a dispositions of houses and fences in your garden.

Before we proceed with description of each species, please get to know some advices and hints which could be useful for every gardener. Applying to them will help you to gain and breed the species you like.

We must say at this point, that there's no way to complete or end Viva Pinata. You can play as long as you want achieving various goals, like creating the most valuable garden or pinata or just acquire all available species on the island. So - don't waste time, grab your shovel, watering can and packet of seeds. Get ready!

Before we proceed with breeding pinatas, you must plan your garden thoughtfully. Its space isn't unlimited, so you need to use it with caution. You should also remember that not all animals like each other and they need to be separated with a fence or kept at a distance.

Unfortunately, your garden isn't visited only by friendly creatures, but also by ruffians and sour pinatas (more and more of them as you reach next ranks). You need to be prepared and know how to guard yourself. If not, after each visit you'll have to recover a lot of damage, for example cure sick pinatas and fix the destroyed fences. Remember, that you play the role of gardener, so you need to take care of plants as well: know where and how seed them, which fertilizer use on them and in what product they can be turned into. Of course, development and growth of your garden is impossible without appropriate funds... In order to facilitate these tasks, we prepared some advices and hints for first-time gardeners.

Paths, fences and use of space

Garden space - Size of your garden increases twice: after reaching eleventh and twenty first rank. Even then it is still limited, so you have room only for finite amount of buildings, plants and pinatas (there can be theoretically 30 animals at the same time, but in fact they are difficult to control at this amount). When you'll use given space at maximum, new plants won't grow and pinatas won't romance. Lack of room can also lead to escalation of fights between your animals, so just try to avoid this situation by selling unnecessary buildings and inhabitants.

Several gardens - In Viva Pinata, you can have more than one garden. What's important, that moving between them doesn't mean that you lose your money, rank or articles available in the shops. You can create several gardens and each of them assign to other species. This way you'll avoid a lot of conflicts and fill the requirements of specific species without much problem.

Paths - It is good to bestow some time and space to build paths. They are especially useful for your helpers who thanks to them can move more quickly and work more efficiently.

There are few types of pathways to choose between. - Paths, fences and use of space - Designing and maintaining the garden - Viva Pinata - Game Guide and WalkthroughThere are few types of pathways to choose between.

Fences - Fencing some parts of your garden may be a good solution. First, you can protect some pinatas from their natural enemies (like Mousemallows from Syrupents for example) or simply keep them in one place. You need to be careful though and give them enough space to live - if not, they can become unhappy or even sick. Second, you can use fences to enclose the terrain on which you seeded weeds. They are in most cases dangerous for your animals, so it's better to separate them.

Order of build-up - Although the game itself doesn't impose any order in designing your garden, it is good to allocate the buildings first and then fill the remaining space with trees, plants, paths and decorations.

When reaching next ranks, you must deal with new and more nasty dangers like uninvited guests - sour pinatas, ruffians, professor Pester and sinister Dastardos. Although in the first instance you may feel helpless, there's always a way to get rid of the danger.

Hiring the Watchling (Daily and Night) can give you a little calm, but not always works. In fact, having these helpers doesn't mean that you dealt with uninvited guests.

Sour pinatas - There are eight species of malicious, filled with poison candies pinatas. You'll find more information about them in Pinata species part of this guide. Ways to deal with them are described in chapter about raising pinatas (chapter Pinatas - breeder advices).

Ruffians - They appear when you're at higher level and they can do a lot of damage in your garden. At the beginning you are helpless but after gaining some more experience you'll be able to buy Captains Cutlass to scare them away.

Ruffians are nothing but trouble. This one here Ruffians are nothing but trouble. This one here "throws up" land and covers the pond.

Dastardos - It is a very dangerous character. He comes as soon as one of your pinatas gets sick. If the village doctor doesn't manage to cure it on time, Dastardos will break it. However, he can be scared away by tamed Crowla or Sherbat. Plus, on higher level you'll be able to buy Dastardos Scarer at Ivor Bargain.

Ivor - Although in the beginning he is uninvited guest, after a little handout he might become very helpful. You meet him as beggar, but when you give him 1000 chocolate coins, he will open his own shop in the village - full of fine objects, like Special Mix Fertilizer for example.

It is good to hire all helpers available in specific moment of the game. Some of them are more useful, the other less, but all ease you with monotonous works (watering plants, gathering fruits, watching the garden etc.). When you'll build them a house and paths, they will be moving and working faster.

Trees and flowers - When it comes to choose between these two types of plants, it is better to concentrate on flowers. They take less place and on some of them (like orchid or bird of paradise) you can gain a pretty penny. Trees are useful especially to lure specific species. Their growth takes more time and taking care of them is more troublesome in general.

Fertilizers - Proper fertilization of plants makes them bigger and more valuable. Every plant needs fertilizer of a specific color. Most of flowers, vegetables and trees require a triple dose, whereat trees need to be fertilized in some time interval. If you want, you can replace all the fertilizers by Special Mix Fertilizer bought at Ivor Bargain, but it's rather expensive. Here is a table of which plants take which fertilizer.

Time of seeding - If you want to use the help of Sprinkling, you need to take notice when you are seeding new plants. When you'll do it right before the dawn, about 6 a.m., she will be watering plants after she wakes up until the evening. In case you seed them at evening or at night, you must water them by yourself.

Transformation of plants and products - Grown plants and gained products (like milk or honey) can be transformed into new objects with special uses. It is done by Bart. In his shop you need to buy a tinker ticket. They come in different values - bronze, silver and gold. The higher the value purchased (gold being the best), the better chance of a tinker being successful.

  • Bronze ticket - 25%
  • Silver ticket - 50%
  • Gold ticket - 100%

Without chocolate coins, which are the currency on pinata island, there's no way to develop your garden and gain new animals. That's why you need to make your hobby a profitable activity. Sooner or later you'll find a source of income suitable for you. We propose just a few examples for a good start.

Selling pinatas - You can sell unnecessary pinatas to get some money, but turning regular species into another, rare and valuable ones and selling them is much more profitable. For example Reddhotts, which are created by setting Tafflies on fire and dousing it with watering can, are a good source of income. On a higher level, it's easy to gain chocolate coins by breeding and selling valuable species.

Selling plants - Soon after starting the game you will find, that you can cash in more on some plants that on the others. For the beginning, take chili. The rule is simple: buy seeds, sow them, fertilize (check the table above), water and then sell. On a higher level, it's good to grow an oak - you just need some place in the garden and a bit of patience. Orchids and bulrush are also valuable.

Garden with poison ivy - Creating a garden full of poison ivy and nothing else is the third way to gain money. First buy some seeds at the shop and sow them around. Then wait until they drop a green bloom. Poison ivy doesn't need to be watered, so you just must be patient and successively sell the bloom. Meanwhile the plants come out of bloom and leave seeds - you know what to do with them. Every visiting pinata sell right away. This garden isn't too good for them. After gaining a satisfying amount of chocolate coins, move to your main garden. You can always return here later and earn some more.

Garden full of poison ivy isn't very beautiful but it might be useful in case of money trouble. - Making money - Designing and maintaining the garden - Viva Pinata - Game Guide and WalkthroughGarden full of poison ivy isn't very beautiful but it might be useful in case of money trouble.

The basic goal of the game is to gain and breed following species of pinatas. You can do it at your own pace or speed up this process a little. This is why we prepared some advices concerning this aspect of Viva Pinata. Information about specific species can be found in the chapter entitled Pinata species.

Specialization of the garden

If you want to give your best with breeding a specific species, you must throw up having more than 4-5 types of them at this same time. That way you'll manage without much problem to fill their requirements and take control over each individual. If an unwanted animal comes to your garden, you can always use the shovel to get rid of it. Suchwise, you'll avoid problems with fighting pinatas and interspecies conflicts.

First choose the species you're interested in at this moment. Then prepare your garden to meet its requirements. While waiting for that, you can spend time breeding already inhabited animals or seeding and selling plants and fruits.

As soon as new resident gets to your garden, go to the village and ask Gretchen Fetchem to hunt a mate for it. Always pick the express, because the regular service takes too much time. Meanwhile build a house for your new pinatas, seed the plants if they need any and fill other romance requirements. This way, when a couple will be ready, you can breed them right away.

Now you just need to multiply animals until you get a "master romancer" award. By the way, it's good to make all the color variants possible. When you can use some pinata to create new species, don't hesitate.

In the end, make sure that you wouldn't need representatives of this species to lure other animals or to fill their romance requirements. If not, sell all of them and their house as well. If yes, leave a proper amount of individuals. Now you can go on similarly with another species.

When our pinatas are ready to romance, these sweet hearts are shown above their heads. - Specialization of the garden - Pinatas - breeder advices - Viva Pinata - Game Guide and WalkthroughWhen our pinatas are ready to romance, these sweet hearts are shown above their heads.

You can speed up increase of any species by following these advices:

  • At the beginning, fill the requirements just for two first representatives of a given species. For the following, use the Romance Sweet.
  • It's good to buy some more Romance Sweets. You wouldn't need to go to the shop frequently.
  • As soon as the first egg will be delivered, wait until you regain control over the parents and give them Romance Sweets. Then engage them to romance again. This way you'll make easier going through the maze, because every new animal of given species means that you can make less mistakes while playing the minigame. It's especially important when dealing with more complicated mazes. Remember also, that unhatched pinatas don't count as residents.
Minigames aren't very difficult but even then there's no need to rush. - Quick romancing - Pinatas - breeder advices - Viva Pinata - Game Guide and WalkthroughMinigames aren't very difficult but even then there's no need to rush.

There are eight species of sour pinatas in the game. They start to intrude your garden after reaching a properly high experience level. Every visit of an animal like this is annoying and bad for your habitants.

First of all, eliminate poison sweets which they are throwing, because they make your pinatas sick. Then deal with the uninvited guest itself. Your shovel is an efficient weapon. Breaking sour pinata is nevertheless only a temporary solution.

To get rid of it once and for all, you must have in your Tower of Sour a segment representing it. You can get it in two ways: by taming specific sour pinata or by buying a totem blocks from Costolot's General Store.

We propose to use the second method first. Remember, that you can buy it after breaking up at least one sour pinata of this kind. Then check if the totem is activated. This way you keep away specific sour pinatas from your garden.

When you want to tame the sour pinata, deactivate its totem and wait until it shows up. Meanwhile prepare to fill all its resident requirements. When the animal comes in, make sure it gets whatever it needs. After it forms a cocoon, it is already ours. Now you can activate the totem again.

We can deal with sour pinata using a shovel. - Sour pinatas - Pinatas - breeder advices - Viva Pinata - Game Guide and WalkthroughWe can deal with sour pinata using a shovel.

A tamed pinata is just like any other else. You need to fill its romance requirements, ask Gretchen Fetchem to hunt a mate for it, meanwhile build house etc. Tamed pinatas repay us in a various ways. Detailed description can be found in the chapter Pinata species.

If you want to increase the value of a pinata, you need to make sure it feels happy: attire it using new accessories (the more expensive the better), feed it with sweets and send to the children parties (by completing factory requests). Remember also, that just by naming your animal you make it happier. What's bad for them is closing on a small area. When they lack living space, they may become not only unhappy, but also sick.

This pinata is beautifully attired and therefore much happier. - Value and happiness of pinatas - Pinatas - breeder advices - Viva Pinata - Game Guide and WalkthroughThis pinata is beautifully attired and therefore much happier.
