What is the difference between a regular hockey and a playoff hockey game
In the NHL teams play regular games during the season. The 8 teams from each division with the most points at the end of the season get to play in the playoffs (2 points for a win, 1 point for a loss in overtime and 0 for a loss). In the playoffs two teams compete in a best of 7 tournament. The winner gets to play in the next round against another team, the loser starts training for the next season. The team that wins all their best of 7 tournaments win the stanly cup.
Also in a regular season game if there is a tie at the end of the game they go into ONE overtime period and then a shootout (teams shoot 3 times the team with goals win if still tied after 3 shots teams take turns until they score) IN A PLAYOFF GAME after one period of overtime THERE IS NO SHOOTOUT. They just play another period of overtime. (In overtime for both types of games both teams have 4 players on the ice instead of 5.) I hope that answers your question! :D
