Can you play a ps2 game like Metal Gear Solid snake eater on a ps3

New PS3 models do not play PS2 games and the PlayStation 3 let's you know that because they say it on the box they come in and in all the ads. It does not matter what the name of the game is they do not play the games. PS3 only played PS2 games when they were made with 4 USB ports. Why play the old games anyway they are not very technologically advanced. Even the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is rather old. It has been 30 months since the PS3 release on June 23 2008. Why would you want to play a 6 year old game like Snake Eater when there are so many new games available. A PS2 does not have the technical capability to play PS3 games and the PS3 games must be scaled down to allow them to be designed for and play in the PS2. Unless a PS2 game is redesigned and upgraded it is a waste of the capabilities of a PS3 to play the PS2 game anyway.
