In Sonic Unleashed why does Sonic turn into a Werehog

Sonic turns into a werehog in the game thanks to Dr. Eggman. Dr. Eggman made this machine that trapped Sonic in and if using his Super Sonic power the machine would take away the emeralds and bring him to the ground. Then some how he turns into the Werehog, Mostly I think that it's the cause of the electricution that turns him into a werehog.

Kyloias : Actually it is the Chaos Emeralds power being taken from Sonic and being replaced with Dark Gaia's instead.
