Bethesda Softworks (named for Bethesda, Maryland, the company's original headquarters) was founded in 1986, and made sports (Gridiron!, Wayne Gretzky Hockey) and licesnced platformer (Terminator, Where's Waldo?) games for Amiga, Atari, NES, and DOS, before creating their best-known license, The Elder Scrolls: Arena, in 1993.
