There are many inventions that are considered to be the first video game.

Many people view the first video game to be the game "Spacewar!" which was created in 1961 by a group of MIT students in order to test computer systems.

The first use of a video game as a Coin-Op type arcade game was a port of "Spacewar!" called "Galaxy Game" which was set up in the Stanford student union for a price of ten cents a play. This game was released in 1971

The first video game console was released in 1972 by Magnavox and was called Odyssey.
