Why wont steam connect to the internet

I am not totally sure, but one thing is to click on the Steam button in the upper left corner of the Steam client and restart using Exit followed by the starting of Steam a few seconds later, Change User and log back in, or Go Offline then return to Online mode. Try those three, if they don't work, then I would check online or go to the Steam support page.
