How many animals can you have in Kinectimals

You start of with one of the 5 cubs shown on the advertisement.
As you progress through the game, you can collect rare cubs which you can keep, if you choose to keep it, the other goes back to 'Fur town'. I'm pretty sure you can have up to 40 cubs at 'Fur town' each with it's own hut.


I believe it is 7 cubs. There is 5 to choose from in the beginning and you can only have 1 of those. Then there are 6 secret cubs you find by getting 3 of a certain medal (gold, silver, or bronze) in each area. What I can't figure out is why there are 42 huts. (It may be because there are 6 areas with 7 huts each)
