On borderlands will my single player game be deleted if i join an online game

No, in Borderlands you can join any public online game or even an online game with a friend and use an already existing single player character. Then you can play single player again with that same character. When playing online all stat upgrades, guns, exp, etc. are saved and you can still play on single player with everything you've earned online
