What do cut scenes mean in a video games

Cutscenes are small video clips that help to tell you the story when an in game moment would not be sufficient.

Basically they are mini movies that pop up during gameplay when you reach a certain area.
I
n a cutscene, a character could be talking to another, interacting with the environment, etc.

They can either be pre-rendered with really good graphics and animation like in the final fantasy games or they can occur in real time with the character models in-game just moving around a little bit.

After these types of cutscenes, your character will generally be in the position they moved to in the cutscene though older games would have you resume playing from where you stopped when the cutscene activated.
