I'd say probably not.

When looking at video cards the first number is (generally) the least important from a performance point of view.

The first number usually tells you the generation of the card so what features it supports (generally related to which version of directx it supports). An older card may not support all the features a newer card would but may have a higher level of performance.

Eg: Using current cards an ATI 4890 is vastly more powerful than a 5145.

The 5145 supports directx 11 and below
The 4890 supports directx 10 and below

Depending on how modern the game is (i.e does the game support directx 11) there may be a feature missing on the directx 10 card (like the shadows might not be quite so precise or the lighting may not be quite so subtle, the changes between directx versions are generally small things that slightly improve 1 aspect of visuals) but comparing these 2 the 4890 will perform VASTLY better in general.
