How do you use items in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

press A to pick items up.P.S if you do this with a football you will be able to kick\punch it around to attack.P.S.S doing this with a smash ball will not work...but if you keep hitting it you will be glowing,press B then you will be able to use the fighters final smash.
