Some mobs in Minecraft are docile: They can’t harm you, and they won’t try. All land-based docile mobs (such as pigs, cows, sheep, chickens, ocelots, villagers, and mooshrooms) flee when attacked. You can lure cows and sheep anywhere around the game by holding wheat, and you can right-click two animals of the same species while holding wheat to feed them and cause them to spawn a baby animal.
Chickens and pigs have this same faculty, but they require seeds for chickens and carrots for pigs instead of wheat.
Docile Mobs
Mob |
What It Does |
Bat
A member of a flying mob, the
bat adds atmospheric
visual elements to dark caverns. In addition to flying, it sleeps
on the underside of blocks.
Chicken
The
chicken, which is easier than other creatures to
kill, is a good source of feathers. It can be bred (with seeds
instead of wheat), and it occasionally lays eggs, which can be
picked up. It incurs no damage from falling.
Cow
The common
cow provides useful loot, and it can be bred.
To get a bucket of milk, right-click a cow while holding an empty
bucket.
Mooshroom
A
mooshroom is a red cow that appears on the Mushroom
Islands. It can be bred, and you can shear it to get red mushrooms
and turn it into a standard cow. Right-click a mooshroom while
holding a bowl to create mushroom stew.
Ocelot
The timid jungle cat known as an
ocelot can be tamed and
domesticated. Living only in the jungle, it’s frightened by
an avatar’s movement. If it tentatively approaches you while
you’re holding raw fish, right-click to feed it. You can feed
an ocelot five times or so to tame it.
Pig
A commonly occurring animal and a good food source, the
pig can be bred, and it turns into a zombie pigman when
struck by lightning. It also spawn naturally in the Nether and can
move to the overworld through a nether portal you create.
Sheep
The common
sheep can be used to obtain wool and food.
Its wool comes in several different colors. It can be bred:
Right-click a sheep while holding shears to obtain 1 to 3 blocks of
wool; right-click a sheep while holding dye to recolor the sheep.
Baby sheep have the same color as their parents including a mixing
of the colors if the parents are of two different colors; sheep eat
grass to regrow wool.
Squid
The water-dwelling
squid is a source of black dye. It
can swim, and it dies if it has no water to breathe.
Villager
The
villager lives in a village and trades items with
you. Villagers remain indoors at night, and they can fall in love
and have children. They can also trade with players.
Horse
Your trusty steed, the
horse, gives you a fast way to
get to places. It can travel as fast as 14 blocks per second (BPS)
and can jump over blocks such as fences. As in real life, each
horse has a unique combination of speed and jumping ability.
Offspring average the speed and jumping ability of their parents.
Horses can be tamed and healed by using certain foods —
sugar, hay, wheat, golden carrots, golden apples, and apples.
Horses are naturally afraid of water. Horses have their own
inventory, which stores their equipment such as saddles and armor.
Using a cheat command, zombie horses and skeleton horses, 2 fun
mobs intended mostly for decoration and fun can also be added to
the game. Refer to the official Minecraft wiki to learn more about
these mobs
.
Donkey
A variation of the horse is the
donkey. It’s more
rare than the horse. In addition to riding one, you can place a
chest on it. Mules don’t spawn naturally but are bred from a
horse and donkey (as in real life). Mules can also carry a
chest.
Pigs, horses, donkeys, and mules all can wear saddles. When
saddled, these animals can be ridden, which shows the
animal’s Health bar. If the animal is damaged from a mob or
natural event, the Health bar depletes and can be restored with
certain foods.
Rabbit
Also called bunnies, rabbits can be led by carrots. Rabbits are
fast and usually jump aimlessly. They eat fully grown crops, so add
a fence around your garden. You will want rabbits for the items
they leave behind, such as rabbit leather, rabbit meat, and rabbits
foot. One in every 1,000 rabbits is a killer bunny, which is a
hostile mob. (The killer bunny is based on the movie Monty Python
and the Holy Grail, which features a killer bunny character.)
